This position will perform general maintenance and cleaning of the MnDOT Oakdale buildings and grounds as well as assist trades people and general repair workers at the Oakdale property (and other Facility Management properties as needed) in related work and perform heavy manual labor.
Examples of work include:
• Perform repair and maintenance duties as assigned.
• Make minor repairs to buildings and equipment.
• Perform minor plumbing.
• Assist electrician with electrical projects.
• Assist in maintaining HVAC equipment.
• Removal of snow and ice from sidewalks and entrance.
**NOTE: The incumbent is required to be immediately accessible by phone and able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.**
The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
**Minimum Qualifications**
**Knowledge of:**
• Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents, and equipment.
• Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
• Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
**Ability to:**
• Follow simple oral and written instructions
• Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction
• Perform parking lot snow and ice removal activities by operating (or learning to operate) snow and ice control equipment (e.g., loaders, pickup plows, skid steers, blowers, brooms, etc.)
• Keep simple records
**Required:**
• Valid Class D Driver’s License
**Ability to obtain and maintain:**
• DOLI Unlicensed Individual Electrical Work Registration within 6 months of hire
• DOLI Unlicensed Individual Plumbing Work Registration within 6 months of hire
**Preferred Qualifications**
• Forklift certification
• Experience in maintaining buildings and grounds
• Basic understanding of heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing systems
• Knowledge of Building Operating Control Systems
• Experience in operating grounds equipment and forklift
• Basic computer skills
• Experience in remodeling projects, including painting and general repair
• Experience with snow removal
