Job Overview

The General Manager runs all food and restaurant operations in the assigned store location(s). The General Manager develops and maintains an efficient, professional, safe, and profitable food operation while providing caring hospitality and craveable food and beverage products. They ensure the success of various food operations, including but not limited to Starbucks, Macy’s Café, Quick Serve Restaurant, Full-Serve Restaurant, and additional licensed concepts. 

 

What You Will Do

Ensure adherence to Food Division Standards and Best Practices by the team. Follow all brand standards for licensed businesses (e.g., Starbucks) and ensure compliance with contractual requirements as a licensee. Be accountable for sales, expenses, and bottom-line profits. Provide ongoing training to associates to promote team satisfaction and minimize turnover. Support and ensure food production follows recipes and Food Division Best Practices. Monitor food quality by completing daily a.m. and p.m. line checks. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with store management. Partner with the store Human Resources office to coordinate hiring, recruiting, terminations, and employee relations resolutions. Monitor and document employee performance, delivering performance appraisals. Maintain grooming, professional appearance, and communication standards as a role model. Meet the highest workplace sanitation, equipment care, and safety standards set by the Health Department and company policy. Utilize Macy’s and Food Division systems and tools effectively. Manage scheduling and complete weekly payroll to maximize associate productivity, labor cost control, and customer satisfaction. Use daily sales reports and weekly food cost and payroll reports to ensure monthly profit/loss goals are met. Order food, beverage, dry, and paper goods according to budget and business needs. Complete timely payment of invoices based on vendor contracts and Food Division Best Practices. Perform food inventories according to Inventory Best Practices to ensure accuracy and maintain targeted food and liquor costs. Coordinate and execute special events and central-driven promotional strategies. Provide ongoing coaching and recognition to enhance team performance. Ensure the team is trained in and follows safe work practices. Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality. In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

 

Skills You Will Need

Leadership and Team Management: Ability to provide strong leadership, training, and development to associates, promoting team satisfaction, minimizing turnover, and improving performance.

Operational Expertise: Proficient in running and managing food operations, ensuring adherence to food division standards, brand requirements, and operational best practices.

Financial Acumen: Accountability for sales, expenses, and bottom-line profits, with the ability to use reports and data to manage costs and achieve monthly profit/loss goals.

Strategic Planning and Problem-Solving: Ability to think creatively and strategically to improve operations, solve problems, and drive business success.

Customer Service and Hospitality: Strong focus on providing exceptional customer service and ensuring a high-quality food and beverage experience for customers.

Compliance and Safety: Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with health department regulations, workplace sanitation standards, and company policies regarding safety and food handling.

Inventory and Budget Management: Ability to manage inventory, order food and supplies based on business needs and budget and maintain targeted food and liquor costs.

Communication Skills: Strong communication skills for effectively presenting information, collaborating with various teams, and keeping others informed.

Employee Relations and Human Resources: Experience in partnering with HR for hiring, recruiting, employee relations, and performance management.

Scheduling and Payroll Management: Ability to manage scheduling and complete payroll to maximize associate productivity while controlling labor costs.

Event Coordination: Capability to coordinate and execute special events and promotional strategies to enhance business outcomes.

Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of MS Office programs and food management systems for operational efficiency.

Professionalism: Maintains a professional appearance, grooming standards, and communication as a role model within the team.

Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.  This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, remaining in a stationary position, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves remaining in a stationary position for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. This position is exposed to high levels of heat within an enclosed space.  Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
