We are looking for a General Manager (GM) to lead all aspects of the operations of a Sortation Center (SC), including people, process and systems that deliver products to our customers as promised.
Amazon.com’s success is built on a foundation of customer obsession, and the GM of an Amazon SC is a key role in the middle-mile value stream in support of the customer experience.
The GM is a multi-faceted leadership role, requiring an executive to balance daily execution with the long-term development of a highly effective team. The role requires a detailed understanding of every operational component of a facility, including associate needs, information technology, robotics technology and process improvement. A successful GM will provide thoughtful vision and direction for the team while fostering bottoms-up input and participation in process-improvement from all levels of the organization. The GM serves as the face of the organization to thousands of employees and the entire community where the facility is located. Amazon’s field leadership roles manage facilities that can be over a million square feet with up to 5000 hourly and salaried employees.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of developing teams and driving large-scale operational efficiencies. They will also thrive in a safety-focused and fast-paced environment that requires strong technical acumen, problem solving and advanced people leadership skills.
Key job responsibilities
• Own and deliver the operational budget of approximately $100 million+
• Set clear goals for safety, customer experience and productivity, and successfully deliver on them.
• Create an environment of innovation and continuous improvement within the fulfillment center by embracing new technology and ideas from the fulfillment center team.
• Support the scalable growth of the company by developing and enabling the success of each member of the leadership team.
• Engage associates to leverage Lean/Six Sigma tools and concepts to reduce waste and drive process-improvement.
• Drive the quality of individual standard-work to ensure critical quality and safety practices are followed.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with upstream and downstream customers/suppliers, including FC’s, air hubs, sort centers, and delivery stations.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with support teams, including corporate-based support, HR, Finance, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Quality, Loss Prevention, Learning & Development (L&D), IT and Reliability Maintenance and Engineering (RME).
• Recommend policies and programs to ensure the organization’s competitive position and the profitability of the operation. Facilitate on-time shipping and product availability to meet quality standards and cost objectives.
• Ensure the fulfillment center adheres to company policies and administers practices in a fair and equitable manner.
• Oversee product flow and implement new processes as required in order to improve efficiency and to support growth in new product lines and services.
• Uphold the best of Amazon culture, leadership principles, and values in the building and in the community.
