We are actively seeking a Business Center Operations Leader (functioning as a General Manager), to lead our Transportation Business Center (BC) in California, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, and associated markets with the goal of significantly growing our presence in the regional transportation market. This position will be overseeing our business center offices in Los Angeles, Fresno, San Diego, San Francisco, Irvine, Bellevue, Honolulu, Anchorage, Las Vegas, among others.
The successful candidate will be someone with exceptional leadership, communication, and business acumen that will help set the vision for how the practice expands its business within the market. This position is responsible for overall BC management and staffing, ensuring our people are engaged, and that we have the right people in the right roles—including attracting, growing, and retaining top talent. They will lead the business center in integrating innovation into our execution to achieve our financial (bottom line) performance and quality objectives, further diversify the client and project base of the Transportation BC, partner with the other transportation business leaders in the day-to-day operation of the group, support cross-selling and resource sharing, and personally participate in the securing and execution of strategic projects.
As Business Center Operations Leader (BCOL) you will be responsible for the operational, financial, and technical excellence of our transportation practice. The primary goal is to achieve operational excellence, while maintaining an engaged and passionate team and highly satisfied clients. You will also participate in project pursuits, marketing and business development, and the successful delivery of projects.
Reporting directly to the Vice President, Transportation Regional Business Leader in Los Angeles, CA, this position also works closely with the US West Regional Leader to collaborate across all Stantec business lines.

Be responsible for the overall high performance of the BC including financial, business development, operational and employee performance.
Review monthly financial statements, inclusive of discretionary spend and ensure any issues are actioned.
Regularly monitors forecasting, backlog, work in progress, accounts receivable, and staff utilization to identify issues and ensure they are addressed.
Oversees risk management practice related to office matters including employee relation issues
Actively participate in the preparation of proposals and the development of fee estimates.
Implement Stantec policies and strategies.
Responsible for leading the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Practice Leaders and thereafter, oversight of the business center budget and achieving operating targets.
Responsible for proactively identifying underperformance against established targets and developing and implementing improvement plans for underperforming operations within the business center.
Ensures efficient resource management that is responsive to available workloads.
Primarily responsible for the health and safety performance within the business center, including the monitoring of leading and lagging indicators and executing on the BC Improvement Plan.
People Management:
Lead employee resource management, succession planning and identifying and developing future leaders.
Attract, grow and retain high quality staff.
Act as a highly regarded leader, thought partner and a source of counsel and advice for the business center.
Proactively identify opportunities to reinforce and further develop Stantec’s high-performance culture with a focus on talent, productivity and financial performance.
Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the business center.
Uphold a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices, encourages individual integrity, and focuses on the customer and service delivery.
Collaboration:
In partnership with the practice leader, achieve the business center’s marketing and business development objectives and the business center’s project management and design quality objectives.
Work collaboratively with the internal team and account leaders to achieve key business development, financial and operational performance goals across Stantec.
Marketing and Business Development:
Promote collaboration with a focus on cross-selling to consistently win new work with clients within the region.
Provide information on business center related macroeconomic trends, market intelligence, competitor intelligence, market pricing
Where appropriate, be a key member or lead account manager for major clients of the business center or business line.
In consultation with the business center leadership, develop the annual business plan and budget for the business line operations. Your Capabilities and Credentials
The candidate will have demonstrated leadership, communication, and people skills. This should be demonstrated through previous experience in the management of large professional teams, preferably in an integrated design environment.
The candidate will have a general understanding of the transportation marketplace in California, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, and associated markets.
The candidate will maintain well-developed written communication skills in the preparation of technical reports, correspondence, and proposals.
The successful candidate will have proven ability to articulate their vision and create a high level of engagement with staff.
The BCOL must be an individual who has the personality, experience, and ability to effectively lead, challenge, and inspire the team to work together cohesively to support the Stantec Transportation Business Line’s goal to be a world-leading integrated design firm.
Relationships with existing transportation clients, consultants and contractors would be an asset.
The candidate will also have experience with conventional and alternate forms of project delivery.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of 15 years’ related work, leadership, financial management and consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Professional registration in related field.
Possess a thorough understanding of business operations and the financial aspects of managing a business.
Experience working within a consulting practice is an asset.
Experience with California, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, and associated market Transportation clients is an asset.
