As the leader for a Category, you are the key advocate for the category within Amazon -- building a world-class discovery and purchase experience for customers, expanding selection, and generally helping to define, shape and execute long-term strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will have experience working with external vendors in areas such as strategic planning and contract negotiations; experience working with technical teams to build innovative, new technology; and excellent verbal and written communication skills. He or she must also have the analytical horsepower to break down complex problems, and a strong will to get stuff done and deliver results no matter the obstacles.
This role is a 12 month fixed-term-contract.

Our team operates out of our fabulous CBD office (conveniently located near many transportation options), and from home (during COVID-19) leveraging technology.

Key job responsibilities
- Provide leadership for the category team and across the company to ensure that the various functions supporting the business have accountability for all important metrics such as increased selection, unit growth etc.
- Drive periodic innovation aimed at improving customer experience and strengthening vendor/ seller relationships.
- Provide input to defining the customer experience and represent that to senior executives, vendors and third party merchant teams, as well as the category team.
- Work cross functionally with central company-wide teams in Technology, Operations and Merchant Services to establish the right processes and optimize them to utilize resources most efficiently.
- Translate category metrics into actionable plans as determined by different inputs which drive category performance.
- Create sustainable process improvements which drive year-over-year progress in the category.
- Identify new approaches for improving selection and category awareness to better manage the performance of the category over the long run.
- Focus on talent management of the team which includes effectively recruiting and developing the best, and creating an environment which motivates people to thrive in their expertise and deliver aggressive results.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of team management experience
- 7+ years of operational and/or retail management experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience with vendor negotiations, pricing and promotion or inventory management
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading and transforming highly effective organizations
- Experience with P&L responsibility and delivering strong financial results
