General Mechanic 1- 2nd shift/weekends

Description:

Independently performs preventative and corrective maintenance work within assigned areas of responsibility.  Provides preventive and general maintenance services on hospital movable and fixed capital equipment in order to repair and prevent premature wear and malfunctioning.

What you need:Education

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent     

Preferred: Associate’s Degree in a mechanical or related field 

Credentials/Licensure

Preferred: Health Care Mechanic Certification or Current

Related Experience

Minimum: One year work experience in a mechanical related field 

Preferred: Three or more years work experience in a mechanical related field, hospital experience preferred        

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of and ability to use basic hand tools and the test equipment specific to the field

Ability to follow written instructions, perform tasks and document actions taken

Successful completion of two-year level Health Care Mechanics Certification preferred.

Computer Competency

Shows how to use (through a competency assessment) a standard desktop and windows based computer system, including a basic understanding of email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation.  Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job.

Physical/Mental

Minimum:       

Must be physically able to balance, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach, sit, squat, stand, twist, and walk.Possess ability to mentally concentrate while being subject to interruptions and changing work priorities.Must be able to work while being exposed to infectious disease, dust and inclement weather, marked changes in temperature and/or humidity, radiation, fumes/vapors, sharp instruments/tools, hazardous liquids, and operating machinery.Must have near vision, far vision, depth perception, and be able to distinguish colors.Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot, cold, range of temperature, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish odors.Must be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds and on occasion up to 100 pounds.Must be able to push or pull over 100 pounds.

What you will do:Maintains or repairs the following hospital wide systems: pneumatic tube system, nurse call system, fire alarm system, HUGS system, lighting, plumbing, HVAC and medical gas systems.Maintains hospital equipment and systems which can include, exhaust and air intake fans, fan coil units, belts, pulleys, filters, pumps, bearings, shafts, seals, and motors.Performs corrective and routine preventive maintenance on hospital equipment including, but not limited to: ice machines, blanket warmers, doors, blinds, televisions, wallaroos, etc.Performs maintenance on all hospital lighting systems, which includes: replacement of lamps, bulbs, ballasts, switches, and outlets.Performs welding repairs and does general machining which can include work on a lathe, drill press, and grinders.Assembles and maintains office furniture including disassembly for moves and alterations.Determines need for replacement parts and supplies and orders as appropriate.Installs and maintains a wide variety of small items which can include, but not limited to: paper towels dispensers, bulletin boards, pictures, shelving units, carts, keyboard trays, and all types of furniture.Completes Daily Time Sheet in AIMS database to track work orders and preventative maintenance, and miscellaneous work done.Maintains age specific safety precautions including:  No small or sharp objects or tools that may injure patients or visitors will be left out.  Adequate lighting will be maintained for good visibility.  Hallways and pathways will be free of debris, equipment, tools and liquid spills.Promotes teamwork by keeping others informed, participating effectively in group decision making, working to accomplish team objectives and projects, and by soliciting feedback about one's effectiveness as a team member.Continually improves processes by seeking ways to eliminate and reduce waste.Performs other duties as assigned.
