Through this community of healers, scientists, and scholars, Rutgers is equipped as never before to transform lives. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Genetic Counselor for the OB/GYN Clinic at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Provides clinical Pediatric and Perinatal genetic counseling services, under physician supervision when needed, for families and/or pregnancies at risk or suspected of having a genetic condition. 

Among the key duties of this position are the following: Constructs and analyzes a patient’s family history including genetic disease/birth defects and all relevant medical information in addition to addressing the reason for referral.  Provides detailed assessment of patient’s pregnancy history including any exposures that may affect the fetus.  Assists the MFM Physician or Clinical Geneticist as an integral component of the medical genetics team in providing genetic services for pediatric and adult patients.  Assesses and interprets the risk for occurrence/recurrence of genetic conditions in the family and discusses such information with the MFM Physician or Clinical Geneticist and/or patient.  Counsels patients on the nature of the condition(s) in question, including the contribution of heredity after discussion with the MFM Physician or Clinical Geneticist.   Discusses with patients the options available for addressing genetic risks, including availability of carrier and prenatal diagnostic testing after case discussion with the MFM Physician or Clinical Geneticist.  Counsels patients regarding the risks, benefits and limitations of genetic testing, as well as, its implications for reproductive choices.  Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement This position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.  FLSA Exempt Grade 27S Position Salary Annual Minimum Salary 76438.00 Annual Mid Range Salary 91919.00 Annual Maximum Salary 109279.00 Standard Hours 37.50 Union Description HPAE 5094 Payroll Designation PeopleSoft Benefits Rutgers offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees.
