Summary About the Position: Serves as an expert in Advanced Modeling processes and tools which incorporates Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD), Building Information Modeling (BIM), Unmanned Aerial Systems, geodesy, and photogrammetry; and accomplishes Geospatial services work in support of the District's civil works, environmental, military, real estate, and emergency management and levee inspection missions. Responsibilities Works with managers, engineers, architects, scientists, and other professionals to identify and implement Advanced Modeling applications and to promote the technology. Serves as small unmanned aircraft system (SUAS) program manager. Plans, develops and acquires geospatial data using appropriate tools and sources. Provides additional technical support on A-E contracts as requested by the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Geographer: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Managing geographic information systems (GIS) projects for an organization; AND 2) Utilizing software to perform modeling, spatial analysis, or data management; AND 3) Assisting with small unmanned aircraft systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Geography Planning and Evaluating Project Management Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
