Shift Working hours Between Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.
37.5 hours per week. Job Summary The Kentucky Geological Survey is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to work on an 18-month grant-funded project at the Earth Analysis Research Library (EARL), an off-campus facility. The project’s goals include assessing and rehousing oil and gas wellbore samples and developing an ArcGIS StoryMap on the research contributions of oil and gas collections and data. The position is eligible for healthcare benefits.



What you’ll do:

Clean and sort metadata for analysis and sample assessment Use existing workflows and naming conventions to ensure accuracy and findability Update sample metadata in the collection’s database Rehouse selected samples to conform to EARL standards Work with senior staff to locate missing samples in the warehouse Storyboard/outline an interactive Story Map about Kentucky oil and gas related collections Gather information from various KGS staff, publications, and other resources to create content for the StoryMap Follow the KGS internal publishing process to publish a StoryMap on the KGS and ArcGIS websites Compose and maintain project notes and attend regular progress meetings Work closely with KGS staff to ensure data conformity and collection management policies are followed

Where you’ll work:

EARL is a rock, mineral and soil analysis and storage facility located off UK’s campus. Your primary place of work is in the warehouse and a workstation at EARL.


Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, teamwork, must have legible handwriting, preferred 5+ years of state-issued drivers license Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience Experience with maintaining work records; possesses competent narrative writing skills; comfort with Excel or similar spreadsheet tools; ability to learn new workflows and procedures.
