Job Description

AECOM has an opening for an entry-level Geologist in our Long Beach, California office to assist with a variety of projects, including data management, site investigations, and remediation. The successful candidate will gather and analyze geological, hydrogeological, and geochemical data in both field and office settings. Field activities will include soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and oversight of subcontractors, including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. Office activities will involve preparing investigation reports and planning fieldwork. Project locations may include active chemical, industrial facilities, and construction sites.

This position is expected to begin in March 2025.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.Demonstrate flexibility to work on diverse projects, maintain a positive attitude, and commit to workplace health and safety.Conduct fieldwork, including oversight of subcontractors.Develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition for environmental investigations and remediation projects.Possess technical report writing skills independent of AI technology.

Key Duties:

Understand and supervise the advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells.Play a primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects at various client sites.Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings.Apply understanding of environmental and geotechnical laboratory methods.Prepare investigation reports and help coordinate the preparation of drawings.Conduct independent fieldwork and lead field teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Geological Sciences.Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).

Preferred Qualifications:

40-hour HAZWOPER training and 8-hour annual refresher.OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour Construction training.First Aid/CPR training.Basic understanding of GIS computer systems.Proficiency in basic computer programs, including MS Word and MS Excel, and typical search engines.Ability to travel up to 75% to various job sites within the US.

Additional InformationRelocation assistance is not available for this position.Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Long Beach, California. The selected candidate must be available to work in Long Beach, California on a scheduled basis.
