Geologist/Environmental Scientist
Job Title: Geologist

Job Description

We are seeking a fully competent Geologist to join our team. This role involves evaluating and interpreting subsurface field and sampling data, generating subsurface maps and cross-sections, and collaborating with geotechnical engineering staff on various projects. The Geologist will oversee field monitoring and testing of soils, interpret soil, bedrock, and groundwater data, and prepare written plans and reports related to site investigations, assessments, and remediation activities.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and interpret subsurface field and sampling data, including soil and groundwater.Generate subsurface maps and cross-sections.Collaborate with geotechnical engineering staff on projects.Oversee field monitoring and testing of soils, including boring investigations and soil type classification.Interpret soil, bedrock, and groundwater elevation and quality data.Prepare written plans and reports related to site investigations, assessments, and remediation activities.Participate in construction projects focusing on earthwork and structural foundations, well design and sampling, geologic hazard assessments, and seismic risk assessments.Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.Participate in pre-task planning and report any safety issues or concerns to management.Maintain quality standards on all projects.Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of work for part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope and complexity.Devise new approaches to problems encountered.Serve as a team leader on medium projects and mentor junior level Geologists.Perform scientific analyses on projects within own discipline.Attend on and off-site client meetings.Implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test, collect data, and document site activities.Develop written proposals to clients for both small and large projects, including quality control review of proposals written by others.Evaluate complex laboratory and field data and assemble them into written reports.

Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field.Minimum of 7 years' related experience.Ability to obtain registration as a Certified Engineering Geologist in California.Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.Environmental science expertise.Experience with sample analysis, soil sampling, and remediation.Knowledge in restoration, waste clean-up, and brownfield projects.

Work Environment

Work will be conducted in both field and office environments. The consultant will need to be in the field for work as well as the office. They may not be going to the office if they're in the field and can possibly start or finish the day remotely. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00
