Geotechnical Assistant Project Manager

As a Geotechnical Assistant Project Manager, you will perform technical assignments under the coaching of mid-to-senior level geotechnical engineers. You will perform a variety of tasks, which should develop knowledge and abilities required to apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria, and which also provide experience and familiarization with the staff, methods, practices and programs of the company.  Typical duties and responsibilities may include but not be limited to analyses of work according to standard geotechnical procedures on simple projects or on parts of more complex projects, review of data furnished by lab or field staff, and for correctness of own data. The Geotechnical Assistant Project Manager will write reports on routine projects with senior review by licensed PE.Job Responsibilities:Travel safely to various job sites in a company provided vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, inside/outside upkeep and complete monthly vehicle inspection reports) Staff engineering duties including data reduction, analysis and fieldwork for commercial and residential projectsAssist with project management, reporting and proposal writingField inspection of geotechnical sites, sampling and testing of soils, concrete, masonry, reinforced steel, etc. Assist with the preparation of geotechnical reports and prepare final reports for reviewClient consultation and maintenanceSite reconnaissance, laying out borings, one-call tickets, preparation of field instructionsReview and interpret field samples for geotechnical analysis   Visual classification of soils and preparation of boring logsPerform hand auger borings with dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) testingAssist with double-ring infiltration tests and ReMi testingProvide guidance and oversight to staff professionals for collection of field dataMentor and assist other geotechnical staff as neededGenerate reports, recommendations and other documentation needed by clients, including engineering and design to be reviewed by Project Manager/Professional EngineerConduct site meetings, site estimates, and project recommendations for prospective and current clientsMaintain excellent communication both verbally and electronically with senior management, project managers and colleaguesDemonstrated commitment to safety, quality and integrityFollow all company safety procedures and policiesOther tasks as assignedQualifications & Skills:Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving recordAssociates Degree and 2 years prior Geotechnical experiencePreferred: 4-year Bachelor’s Degree with EIT/GIT certification2-4 years of relevant field experience and/or office geotechnical engineering experiencePreferred: Engineering Intern (EI/EIT) and ability to obtain PE within 1-2 years2+ years of project managementSkills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to use technologyStrong computer and math skillsAbility to read and interpret construction documentsKnowledge of geotechnical engineering calculations (soil settlement, bearing pressure, slope stability)Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memosKnowledge of geotechnical and construction materials testing methods, ASTM standards, and soil classificationsAbility to calculate results from geotechnical/construction materials testing dataAbility to read and interpret construction documentsAbility to accurately complete field-testing paperwork and detailed figuresAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusionsAbility to write technical reports, proposals, business correspondences and/or procedure manuals as neededAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memosAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and if needed, clients, customers and the general publicProficient knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Boring Log software, AutoCAD and other engineering design software, deep foundation software, slope stability software, laboratory software and settlement software Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to use technology/computerStrong leadership skills and an eye for detailWorking Conditions & Physical Requirements:Days and hours for this position are typically Monday-Friday Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environmentsField work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting and potentially repetitive motionsTypically, this position involves 60% office work, 40% field work, depending on the week/workAbility to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs.You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day within the Mid-Atlantic region (NC, SC, VA)Some weekend, overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required#LI-MD1Who We Are:   UES provides essential engineering services for some of the most prominent and significant projects in the nation.
