Role description:
Arcadis is looking for an experienced Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our National Water Management practice in either Richmond, Arlington, or Virginia Beach, Virginia!
This is an outstanding opportunity to lead and partner while working collaboratively on a wide variety of projects at a variety of scales, in a ‘hands-on’ role with an expectation of also supporting client development activities for municipal, state, federal and private sector clients. Our ideal candidate will have progressive geotechnical experience in slope stability, seepage and foundation analyses. Experience focused on dams, levees, flood walls, spillways, outlet works, pump stations, and other hydraulic structures, to support our Dams and Hydraulic Structures Practice within our Resilience Water division.
Role accountabilities:
In this role you will utilize expertise and technical knowledge to lead geotechnical projects related to water management, flood resiliency and general infrastructure design. Other work may include dam and levee safety inspections and studies and supporting structural and geotechnical disciplines with civil engineering specific tasks. The position will also support a backlog of local and national projects.This role requires geotechnical engineering experience with a focus on: detailed planning, project development, feasibility studies, engineering design and project implementation.
Specific project work may include; Performing geotechnical analyses, technical reports, and design for dams, levees, and ancillary structures, including but not limited to seepage analysis, static and seismic stability analysis, liquefaction analysis, foundation and settlement analysis, laterally loaded deep foundations, filter compatibility analysis, seepage remediation, and ground modification. Some travel may be required to project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, construction oversight, etc.
Other Responsibilities include:
Design and analyses of dams and other heavy civil and earthen structures will be a part of this role in addition to preparing design/bid packages for permitting/construction, and coordinating and overseeing construction administration, and inspection services. Design installation and data evaluation for instrumentation systems at dams, levees, spillways, outlet works, and slopes. Planning field exploration and laboratory testing programs. Numerical modeling using programs such as Plaxis or FLAC for seismic analysis of dams, levees, spillways, floodwalls, retaining structures, buildings, bridges, and other types of structures are a plus.Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
8 years of geotechnical experience with emphasis on the investigation and analysis of dams and reservoirs, levees, locks, hydropower, river and coastal flood management projects, and/or other heavy civil projects.
Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related field.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with the ability to obtain license in Virginia within 3 months.
Key Skills and Attributes:
Experience with managing project teams and collaborating with other technical disciplines. Experience with programs such as gINT, SEEPW, SLOPEW, CWALSHT, PYWall, LPILE and GROUP.We are looking for relevant experience with the current state-of-the-practice techniques for:
Geotechnical field investigation and laboratory testing, Geotechnical analyses for dams, levees, cofferdams, and foundations for other hydraulic structures, including but not limited to seepage, static and seismic stability analysis, liquefaction analysis, deformation analysis, foundation and settlement analysis.
Geotechnical analyses for shallow and deep foundations including bearing capacity and settlement analysis, axially and laterally loaded deep foundations, retaining structures, earth anchors, ground modification, and seismic analysis and design.
Seismic analysis of dams, levees, spillways, floodwalls, retaining structures, buildings. bridges, and other types of structures
Evaluation and design of remedial measures for existing dams, levees, flood management projects, and ancillary structure
Preferred Qualifications:

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
