The Opportunity: The GI tech is responsible for the set up of procedural rooms and works in collaboration with the RN to assist physicians during procedures. GI techs are responsible for the reprocessing, high level disinfection, and associated documentation of endoscopes and accessories in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory guidelines. The tech manages inventory and ordering of specialty supplies for the department and arranges the repair of endoscopes and equipment. Under the direction of a RN, the GI tech assists with patient care in pre-op and recovery. This position requires an individual who is detail oriented, can prioritize tasks, works well in a team environment, and will advocate for the safety of our patients.
Position Details:
Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.The Work:
Prepares endoscopy suites for procedures, including the setup of endoscopes, accessories, and preparation of procedural supplies. Verifies that all equipment is working properly.Under the direction of a physician and RN, assists with procedures including handling of supplies used for tissue collection, hemostasis, and various other therapeutic interventions.Assists in specimen collection according to hospital policy.Completes pre-cleaning, reprocessing, and ensures proper storage of endoscopes and accessories in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.Advocates for patient safety in pre-procedure, procedural, and recovery settings.Assists in stocking of procedure and reprocessing rooms.At certain SLHS endoscopy Center locations the GI tech may perform additional tasks such as assisting RNs with patient care in prep and recovery areas. This includes but is not limited to bedding patients, attaching monitors for obtaining vital signs, glucose testing, assisting patients to the bathroom, transporting patients to their car after discharge or to their inpatient rooms, and turning over rooms in-between patients.Manages inventory and ordering of specialty supplies for the endoscopy center.Facilitates the repair of endoscopes and equipment in conjunction with the facility biomed team and/or vendors. Traditional Call - same call shifts as any other department taking call. Hours (1700-0700p) nightly plus (0700-0700) on the weekendsGuaranteed Call Program- no scheduled work shifts throughout the week & scheduled on call 7 days in a row with a guarantee of 40 hours payNext Steps:
