Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Technician, GI-FGP.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for preparing the procedure room, facilitating the availability of all equipment for both advanced and routine endoscopic procedures, and providing safe, therapeutic, age-specific care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The candidate adheres to strict scope/equipment reprocessing guidelines, assists with patient transport, and performs cleaning duties necessary for the orderly functioning of the procedure rooms and unit. The candidate also assists with ensuring proper par levels of advanced and standard endoscopic supplies are maintained within budget.
Job Responsibilities:
Sets up procedure rooms in an organized and timely manner, ensuring supplies and equipment are needed.Performs a variety of cleaning duties necessary for the orderly functioning of the procedure rooms and unit.Maintains a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment, including security of belongings.Complies with regulatory and quality policies governing safety standards and infection control.Monitors product supply usage and waste reduction.Adheres to strict scope reprocessing standards based on the model of endoscope, manufacturer guidelines, and regulatory safety standards.Initiates corrective action if breaks in protocol occur. Properly documents reprocessing protocol.Accurately and promptly reports all changes in patient condition and pertinent patient information to the registered nurse.Assists patients, family, visitors, and healthcare team members by answering questions, delivering messages, and giving information within the scope of practice.Ensures appropriate emergency equipment is present and operational, and responds to emergency situations as appropriate.Provides direct patient care utilizing NYUL policy procedures, patient care guidelines, physician's orders, and endoscopy skill set. Assists and supports team members accordingly.Participates in the orientation of new employees, unit-based quality improvement measures, and keeps current in Endoscopic and other related areas.Transports patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the facility. Sanitizes transport equipment according to infection control policy.Provides timely and accurate, complete documentation in the decontamination room of all QI logs.Takes an active role in orienting, coaching, and mentoring new staff.Monitors reprocessing units to ensure they are performing at optimal levels, performs routine checks on reprocessing equipment and high-level disinfection. Interprets and records results, reports problems to the Manager.Oversees the care, handling, and maintenance of the endoscope equipment. Inspects endoscopes and any broken equipment and reports to the manager.Maintains open communication with the manager regarding the maintenance of endoscopes and other equipment.Must collect specimens and properly label and document log books.Reconciles end-of-day specimens collected.Promotes a safe working environment by consistently performing thorough infection prevention measures.Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have a High School Diploma or GED.Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS).As of 7/15/17, Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Inc. (SGNA) Associates Program: Newly hired or transferred employees within the first year of employment.SGNA Advanced Associates Program: Newly hired or transferred employees within 1 year of employment.1–2 years of Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience.Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, interpersonal problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.Basic computer skills.Must have one of the following within 6 months of employment:Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER)Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER).Required Licenses: SGNA Associates, SGNA Advanced Assoc.
