Scope & Purpose of Position: Assist with securing funding through bequests, gift annuities, charitable trusts, and other planned giving vehicles. Serve as a critical member of the gift planning team and be responsible for coordinating all gift planning administrative duties. Often serves as a liaison between the Gift Planning Director and donors. Prepare detailed and complex donor proposals, including recommending a specific strategy to the Gift Planning Director. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive personal and financial information. Provide a thorough understanding of and appreciation for the critical importance of philanthropic intent to the organization. At all times, demonstrate the highest ethical and professional standards and personify the mission of The Salvation Army through daily professional performance.
Responsibilities Develop various interpersonal communication strategies between donors and the department, including setting up meetings, sending personal/celebratory messages, and building relationships.Schedule donor, prospect, and professional advisor appointments and meetings.Assist and provide donors, prospects, lawyers, financial planners, and other professional advisors with gift planning and additional specific financial information.Implement donor and prospect outreach, specifically screening by phone, email, and mail follow-up. Perform background research on donors and prospects, utilizing the Internet and other research materials and methods.Organize distribution of all gift planning materials from internal and external sources.Coordinate mass solicitation mailings to donors and prospects.Manage the content, design, and production of collateral materials, web presence, email communications, social media, and other local marketing efforts in collaboration with the public relations office.Regularly update the “Legacy Society” donor recognition website. Develop, produce, and analyze reports enabling Gift Planning to refine ongoing marketing practices and improve return on investment.Process life-income gifts in an approved manner and forward them to the Territorial Gift Planning Department.Manage and update all confidential donor and professional advisor files, including maintaining accurate and detailed documentation of all interactions.Apply technical and practical knowledge of specific software and database management to enhance the department's measured results. Maintain donor database, including gift entry, report generation, address corrections, and all donor/prospect contact.Maintain, utilizing the database, a current and accurate list of donors and prospects for all areas of gift planning, i.e., bequests, annuities, and trusts.Prepare detailed analysis and gift proposals specific to individual donors and prospects utilizing the applicable gift planning software.Facilitate and manage multiple projects, speak for the organization, and, when necessary, specifically for the Gift Planning Director. Participate and interact in implementing special activities for the Gift Planning Department and the Advancement Department as requested.Perform administrative functions as required to support the Gift Planning Director.Maintain a thorough knowledge of federal and state tax law related to present and estate giving.Liquidate stock according to THQ guidelines and alert local officers of donation. Maintain all stock donation records and communicate with DHQ finance to ensure the proper designation of stock donations. Opportunity to manage a small portfolio of gift-planning donors.Participate in the planning and execution of special events as directed. Qualifications An associate degree is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.2-5 years of relevant work experience in gift planning or non-profit fundraising. Pertinent other experiences may be considered.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with database system(s), particularly Salesforce and Crescendo, strongly preferred.Strong interpersonal skills and personal phone manners.Professional demeanor and confidentiality as a standard.Demonstrated experience in following through on assigned tasks, including taking the initiative. Possess a thorough knowledge of federal and state tax law related to present and estate giving.Ability to learn and understand various gift plans, including life-income, trust, and deferred giving vehicles. Strong project management and organization skills with the ability to meet deadlines.Creative thinking, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.Willingness to travel occasionally; must have a valid driver’s license.Must complete all required trainings upon hire.Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army.
