Purpose  

The ideal candidate for the Assistant Manager position at the Wildflower Center’s newly refurbished Gift Shop and Gallery will bring a wealth of experience and a passion for merchandising to our team. This person will train and assist staff and volunteers, create a calendar of events, work the sales floor, and bring our best-in-class customer service to our guests. 

  

Responsibilities 

Merchandise daily shipments onto the sales floor while maintaining high visual merchandising standards. Set the floor for all sales and promotions. Assist Gift Shop manager with floor plans for displays. Assist with inventory control, including data entry, markdowns, markups, transfers, and ordering and receiving shipments. Responsible for ticketing of all merchandise. Lead annual physical year-end inventory. Maintain stockroom and fixtures. Enter markdowns into system through price sheets and promos.

Open and close store. Assist in completing the deposit each night in Counterpoint. Assist with completing the report in DEFINE nightly.

Train, schedule, and manage all volunteers: schedule volunteers on weekly basis to ensure adequate coverage of registers and sales floor. Provide initial training of volunteers, as well as ongoing refreshers. Regularly maintain accurate and up-to-date information on registers and bulletin board. Assist with registers when necessary. Provide projects for clerical and sales volunteers. Send out volunteer correspondence on a regular basis. Coordinate volunteers for receiving. Manage lost and found items and computer submissions. Assist in managing seasonal staff.

Troubleshoot register and/or computer issues with TRCG and Web2Market. Answer customer concerns in the store and through the mail. Ship merchandise sold to customers. Contact companies regarding incorrect shipments. Assist with catalog operations. Produce computer-generated reports. Design, produce, and mail bi-monthly store calendar of events. Print and distribute any informational flyers such as store calendar, bluebonnet planting instructions, Habiturf brochures, etc.

Other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree. 

At least 2 years of experience in a team lead/supervisory capacity. 

Experience with merchandising and showcasing high visual standards. 

Experience working with and troubleshooting point of sale systems. 

Willingness to work individually and with a team. 

Availability to work evenings and weekends. 

High level of organizational skills. 

Strong communication and active listening skills. 

Demonstrated high level of customer service and hospitality skills. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

Experience working at a botanic garden or university setting gift shop. 

Experience with UT systems. 

Training experience. 

Experience with inventory process. 

Experience working with volunteers. 

 

Salary Range 

$43,680 (firm)

Working Conditions 

May work around standard office conditions. 

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. 

Prolonged screen time. 

Use of manual dexterity. 

Must be able to lift 30 pounds. 

May stand for up to 80% of the day. 

Will work with boxes and pallets.  

 

Work Shift 

Tuesday through Saturday  

Evening and weekend work will be required.
