The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) has an exciting opportunity for a natural resource professional who wants to impact Idaho water issues.
IDWR is filling a vacancy for a GIS Analyst 3 in the Geospatial Technologies Section at our State Office in Boise. The person in this position will plan, design, and conduct Geographic Information System (GIS) development and analysis projects. Specifically, through data management, curation, and analytics activities in support of water resource management.
The position reports to the Water Resources Supervisor (GTS) and is part of a team that assist customers with GIS technologies at all levels, ensuring the availability and integrity of GIS data, is responsible for the collection, storage, distribution, and synchronization of GIS data between various IDWR GIS servers and platforms, conducts data queries, and administers IDWR’s ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise access and licensing. Duties are mainly in the office, with limited fieldwork and in-state travel.
The Geospatial Technologies Section at IDWR leverages capabilities in Geographic Information Science to provide innovative, accessible, and verifiable geospatial products to support IDWR’s mission. Example of Duties
+ Leads the planning, management, and analysis for projects and ensures objectives are met upon completion
o May serve in a lead-worker role
+ Coordinates with internal and/or external partners to define data management needs, including metadata, define system requirements, and develop workflows
+ Write custom scripts for data transport and sharing
+ Author, maintain and/or troubleshoot web and mobile GIS applications
+ Provide technical training and educational needs in information processing for department staff
+ Represent department on various task forces, committees, and study groups
+ Mentor junior analysts and trains users on GIS applications
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of:
· GIS including analysis, data capture, and data conversion
· Cartographic principles
Good knowledge of:
· GIS programming languages commonly used in the development of GIS programs
· Database management
· Web APIs
Experience:
· Planning, designing and implementing GIS projects and preparing reports of findings
· Operating, applying, and programming GIS software products in a work environment
Desired Qualifications
+ Experience with Esri GIS Software such as ArcGIS Pro, Survey 123/Field Maps, and ArcGIS Online.
+ Experience with query languages such as T-SQL and programming languages including Python.
+ Experience with data analysis using remote sensing and/or geographic information systems including querying databases, creating spatial data, designing and producing thematic maps, and writing reports.
