GIS Data Analyst

System One is actively recruiting for a GIS Data Analyst for a long-term contract position located in Minneapolis, MN.

This position will be working a hybris schedule, out of Minneapolis. In-office work from Tuesday to Thursday and remote work on Monday and Friday. It is a standard 40-hour workweek with normal business hours and no overtime.

The GIS Data Analyst will work on the wildfire initiatives and ADMS upgrades. The GIS Data Analyst will provide support for optimization of the real-time ADMS system used to operate the Electric Distribution Grid. This role partners with the Distribution Control Centers, Geospatial, Electric Distribution Engineering, Communications Engineering, and Business Systems teams in performing model promotion/validation, testing/troubleshooting, SCADA device instantiation, and application configuration, enhancement, and sustainment activities. Primary job functions include display model validation and attribution, feeder device communications instantiation, and testing use cases.

GIS Data Analyst Responsibilities: Adding communication data to devices, ensuring correct modeling, deploying devices for remote control to control rooms, cleaning up the current ADMS version model, and maximizing the capabilities of the new ADMS version. Handle requests for instantiation of communication data to field objects through a SharePoint system. Validate data in GIS and ADMS, process 15-20 devices weekly, apply outcome settings in the ADMS system, validate industry standards for testing, interpret engineering diagrams of substations, and ensure ADMS matches engineering diagrams and standards. Conduct meetings will be with point-to-point groups, internal team members, and various engineering teams to follow up on substation questions and validate device instantiation requests. Collaborate with Geospatial, Communications Engineering, and other Departments within company data management, data validation and data integrity. Resolve GIS Model issues pursuant to maintenance of the impedance model in ADMS. Instantiate Feeder Devices to enable SCADA Communication and deployment of field devices to the testing authority. Support the maintenance of ADMS in all Operating Companies. Provide ADMS device integration and technology support by working with field technicians and ADMS IT personnel to commission on and resolve performance issues. Configure ADMS Substation and Hydro Electric Displays. Maintenance and configuration of specialized mapping products within ADMS. Monitor and maintain the ADMS model, for both substation and field grid accuracy Provide reporting on remote device availability, ADMS Data Tables, and device instantiation progress
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in GIS/Geography or similar field 2+ years GIS experience Version-based model editing, understanding geospatial data, interpreting engineering diagrams for substations, and understanding how field devices communicate with DMS systems. Experience with version-based GIS model editing Experience with technical diagrams, such as substation single lines, gas as-built, or electric feeder diagrams Experience leveraging SQL to create data report Fluent with MS 365, particularly Microsoft Excel GIS data analysis Data analytics for DMS systems Understanding geospatial data Interpreting engineering diagrams for substation Ensuring correct modeling and communication data to devices Minimum 2-3 years of experience working with GIS systems, typically with a background in geography, GIS, or computer science. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel Exposure to critical infrastructure (e.g., gas, telco, transportation). Version-based modeling experience with GIS in a critical infrastructure capacity. Ability to manage different data types and understand multiple stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skill Problem-solving abilities Experience with GIS data and data analytics for DMS systems.
Preferred Qualifications: 2 years’ experience with GE SmallWorld GIS Experience executing prewritten scripts in Python or R 2 years’ experience with Electrical Grid Distribution Management Systems Familiarity with remote controlled electrical grid devices and their communications settings Experience with building xls macros or MS Power BI Experience with file conversion. Excel spreadsheet macro development. Functional understanding of Python, R, and SQL. Experience managing mid-term data projects (3-6 months) involving multiple stakeholders.
Project Location: Minneapolis, MN
Contract Duration: 12-Months
Hourly Pay Rate: $40.00/hr.
