GL Manager

Job Overview:

 

This position requires a strong background in property management accounting as well as strong computer skills. The GL Manager, is responsible for the accurate and timely production of monthly financial statements for assigned properties and mentors/supports their assigned team. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, able to work well under pressure, meet hard deadlines, and have excellent communication and presentation skills. This position works largely unsupervised, must thoroughly understand all FirstService Residential accounting practices and processes, and maintain strong relationships with clients, property management, and Client Accounting Support Service Teams. The GL Manager, possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully handle and advise GL Accountants on the more difficult or complex properties.

 

Your Responsibilities: Supervises assigned GL Accountant team and their overall functions of the General Ledger teams operations while maintaining standards of excellence for processes, methods and personnel. Work with the Director of Client Accounting to develop goals and communicate established goals to the department. Ensure the goals and needs of the department, company and its customers are consistently met. Prepares and reviews association financial statements, P&L variances, bank reconciliations and Balance Sheet reconciliations. Prepares, reviews, and resolves banking issues including initiating bank account transfer requests. Performs adjusting audit entries related to external annual audits/reviews along with overseeing the review and input of this function for other Client Accountants. Supports management in the preparation of the annual operating budgets. Reviews expense coding and approves invoices in the A/P (AVID) system. Assists with review of association shortfall funding requests, if deemed necessary. Identifies and records income and expenses by accounting periods and follows accounting schedules by preparing accruals, prepaid schedules, and/or receivables schedules in a timely manner. Partner with the Director of Client Accounting for personnel actions, promotions, transfers, terminations, or disciplinary measures related to Accounts Payable and Transition associates. Manage the Performance Evaluation process of assigned associates and provide leadership, counseling and coaching to employees. Maintain harmonious employee/employer relations. Responds to accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data. Communicates with management, BOD members, developers and/or bank representatives, as needed. Identifies opportunities to streamline processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness, making recommendations to Director. Troubleshoots any accounting or reporting issues in collaboration with Operations, Regional staff, or Accounting. Attends Board meetings unsupervised, when appropriate, supporting operations as the accounting resource. Participates in the formalized monthly review of financials during closing for other client accounting associates. Mentors and trains new client accountants fostering an environment of continuous learning and development. Assists the Director of Client Accounting with the interviewing and hiring of new Client Accountants, including recommendations for potential internal candidates. Operates with direct oversight for an assigned group of client accountants, insuring any issues with accuracy, timeliness or responsiveness will be appropriately escalated to the Director of Client Accounting for resolution. Participates in a variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, and resolve problems. Maintains strong documentation standards and audit trails to support all transactions. Protects the organization’s value by keeping information confidential, adhering to the Code of Ethics Policy and following the Global Service Standards. Assists with special requests or projects as deemed necessary by Management. Skills & Qualifications:

Education/Training:

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting from a four-year college or university is required. Minimum of three years of relevant accounting experience required. Property Management industry experienced required.

 

Experience/Knowledge/Abilities:

Proficient in Microsoft Office. Excellent communication skills. Strong working knowledge of customer service principles and practices, ability to perform with minimum supervision and make decisions independently. Ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize workload, meet hard and fast deadlines. Must be a team player that fosters an environment of cooperation and continuous learning. Must possess strong analytical skills. Detail-oriented with multiple tasks, information organization.

Compensation: $75000 - $80000 / year
