Team Overview

Counterparty Risk serves as a centralized 1st Line of Defense to manage the division’s risk to its clients arising from our trading relationships. We manage risk, design, advise on and launch a breadth of initiatives with the focus on preventing losses and enabling new revenue opportunities. The team works closely with Sales and Trading within the divisions and with Credit risk outside of the division in the execution of its responsibilities.

The role will focus on efforts to expand our capabilities to manage counterparty credit risk in ordinary day to day as well as stressed counterparty scenarios utilizing best-in-class tooling to identify, evaluate and manage risk scenarios. The successful candidate will be able to engage in strategic initiatives across multiple stakeholder groups while focusing on managing day to day risk.

Role Responsibilities Manage counterparty and product risk through ongoing review of risk metrics and interaction with Sales and Trading across Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange, Commodities, Credit and Equity productsEvaluate risk taking behavior and influence outcomes through portfolio and transaction level risk analysis taking into consideration risk appetiteCollaborate with Strats and Engineering colleagues on the development of new risk measures/enhancements to existing measuresDesign strategy to respond macro market changes and work closely with cross-divisional project teams to implement initiativesEngage in document negotiation to review and approve material economically impactful terms in trading agreementsEngage with internal stakeholders both within Global Markets (Trading, Sales, and Operations) and the federation (Risk, Legal and Compliance) on overall GS Risk appetite to clients and tools to mitigate the riskTake initiative to identify opportunities for process improvements and develop methods to reduce risks, increase controls, and increase communication

 

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Risk Management or Risk-taking role in a financial institutionRelevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification with an excellent academic recordStrong interest and familiarity with financial products, global financial marketsStrong analytical and quantitative skills as well as written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work flexibly in teams and manage a varied workload to meet deadlinesHighly motivated with strong academic background and a commitment to excellenceStrong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $125000-$250000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
