The Role
Bon Appetit and Epicurious are looking for a creative and innovative leader to join our team as Global Director, Social Strategy. The ideal candidate will deeply understand how to use social media to develop, engage, and inform audiences across all social platforms and be clued in on emerging networks.
The Global Director, Social will oversee a team of local market social managers and multimedia content producers across our owned and operated markets. They should be comfortable setting high-level strategies including the development of Bon Appetit and Epicurious’ social creative direction and providing social insights to our brand stakeholders and cross-functional partners. They must be a thoughtful manager, empowering the team to do their best work and thrive in a fast-paced environment. They must be agile and able to adapt to support Bon Appetit’s priorities at any given time.
This person will work closely with Bon Appetit and Epicurious’ Global Director, Audience Development, all editors & writers, video team, product and technology, and our commercial and consumer partners to develop and optimize content for social audiences, using analytics-based strategies to increase engagement, referrals, marketing, and business opportunities.
The role is based in London and reports into Bon Appetit’s Editor in Chief.
What will you be doing?
Lead and own Bon Appetit and Epicurious’ global social strategy - guiding creative vision, high-level strategy, and best practices for all social channels globally
Lead and manage a team of social media managers and multimedia content producers globally
Collaborate with editors, writers, the creative team and other key stakeholders to develop content packages that are optimized for audience, platforms, and unified KPIs - cascading information to all markets
Develop and improve existing social processes (including the distribution of creative assets globally) to increase speed, efficiency, and performance for all social channels globally
Identify ways to connect markets to support creative innovation and drive brand KPIs through social distribution
Find smart, effective ways to insert Bon Appetit and Epicurious’ content into online conversations globally
Work with Bon Appetit and Epicurious’ commercial and consumer teams on global opportunities and individual market requirements - including ideation of new ideas/packages
Delegate and manage work across the team - providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and serving as a resource for team members to help resolve challenges and improve outputs
Nurture talent and foster a transparent, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team environment
Accountable for all HR/People processes for the global team including performance management, compensation reviews, recruitment, etc.
Who you are:
Strong, proven experience in lifestyle publishing, ideally having worked on both editorial and audience development
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Professional experience creating and optimising content for platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok, and LinkedIn
Professional experience with publishing and analytics tools including SocialFlow, CrowdTangle, Facebook Insights, Parse.ly, and Google Analytics
Professional experience managing editorial sponsorships on social media platforms
Experience managing teams and training people
A sense of humour and keenness to adapt to a changing media landscape and find audiences in new ways
