Responsibilities JOB DUTIES Serves as Global Network Engineer I for the multi-disciplinary project teams they are assigned Provide first tier technical support to GM Financial and its other information technology teams to resolve network issues and to support the implementation of new network solutions Execute operational support of corporate, branch and service center operations Triage incident tickets as they arise Resolve or escalate appropriately Create and update network documentation based on industry best practices Follow established change procedures to implement network maintenance, upgrades and changes Adhere to all company authored policy, procedure and standards documents Ensure that all systems are running at optimal capacity Evaluate and install system patches and system updates as directed Participate in company provided training and perform independent training as appropriate Design, maintain, configure, support and implement moderately complex network communications infrastructure, routers, switching infrastructure and manage reporting and documentation Maintain necessary troubleshooting tools to support infrastructure (Monitoring and Configuration Management tools) Participate in an on-call support rotation for providing after-hours support Must have high attention to detail, be well organized and be a self-starter Understands and promotes the GM Financial policy on Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) to ensure ongoing adherence to all relevant compliance regulations that may govern the GM Financial business and complete all regulatory knowledge training where applicable in a timely fashion Perform other duties as assigned Conform with all company policies and procedures Qualifications Knowledge Basic knowledge of network and security design; which includes the ability to read and create network diagrams Familiarity with the Cisco command line Must possess basic skill in configuration and troubleshooting with one of the following major routing protocols EIGRP, OSPF or BGP Must understand campus switching and principles which includes Spanning-Tree, VTP, and VLANs Must possess the necessary skill and understanding to apply configurations on network equipment from templates created by senior engineers Experience with network monitoring tools, eg NetMRI, LiveNX, and NNMi Experience with IP Management/DHCP tools Commitment to keep up-to-date with IT trends and developments Ability to systematically troubleshoot basic network issues Skills Possess critical thinking and analytical skills with an ability to evaluate complex problems and issues quickly and accurately in order to take remedial action or escalate, as appropriate Ability to approach problems with an open-mind and create new and innovative ideas and methods Ability to think strategically, make collaborative decisions and perform risk analysis Ability to balance priorities in order to meet multiple requirements and deadlines while ensuring priority objectives receive proper emphasis Ability to accept change and adapt to organizational change and shifting priorities Effective time management, prioritization, negotiation and delegation skills Able to think and react positively and professionally when faced with obstacles Ability to communicate quickly, clearly, concisely, appropriately, and intelligently Must foster open communication, speak with impact, listen to others and write effectively Willingness and ability to build on others ideas Education Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience preferred Experience 3-5 years in information technology systems preferred Licenses Cisco Certificate (CCENT) preferred Working toward CCNA preferred What We Offer: Generous benefits package available on day one to include: 401K matching, bonding leave for new parents (12 weeks, 100% paid), tuition assistance, training, GM employee auto discount, community service pay and nine company holidays.
