Overview The Global Unix Systems Engineer IV, under the general direction of the Global Unix Systems Manager, will oversee and assist in the day-to-day tasks critical to the team's success including the planning, design, implementation, and support of Unix Systems. This individual will become thoroughly familiar with all compliance, regulatory and security requirements adhering to all corporate policies and standards. This person needs to be experienced in technology with good planning and coordination skills. Responsibilities JOB DUTIES Oversight of engineering and operational support of global Unix systems and related platforms Contributes to the development of RFPs/SOWs and participates in the vendor selection process Serve as an escalation point for Level I-III Engineers and provide strong leadership, mentoring, and training in their area of expertise Resolves most conflicts between timeline, budget, and scope independently but intuitively Identifies and directs changes through appropriate review and approval mechanisms Operational support of corporate, branch and service center operations and all associated server hardware and software Guiding team to provide internal and external customers with excellent customer service while striving to provide world-class service Delegate routine and standard tasks to appropriate team members and also serve as high level escalation contact Serve as an infrastructure engineer for the multi-disciplinary project teams they are assigned Research root cause of problems and escalate to engineering and vendor support as necessary Effectively collaborate with Server / Storage / Network / Data Center / Facilities / Audit / Compliance and PMO teams Manage problem and service tickets ensuring timely resolution to meet expected service levels Participate in Business Continuation / Disaster Recovery infrastructure planning, building, and testing Ability to conduct training sessions to share knowledge with peers and other support teams is necessary Effectively communicates current status of all projects, problems, and issues to the department management team Proactively identifies opportunities for improvements to existing processes and for automation of time consuming tasks Study and analyze the performance and capacities of the systems and peripheral equipment/systems and prepare plans for future expansion and upgrades Collaborates with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver the artifacts as needed Contributes to the development of RFPs/SOWs and participates in the vendor selection process Uses a broad and deep understanding of technical concepts in multiple specialized fields to develop solutions to problems and critical design issues Resolves most conflicts between timeline, budget, and scope independently but intuitively Identifies and directs changes through appropriate review and approval mechanisms Maintain Service Now change and incident queue, closing tickets in a timely manner with appropriate documentation and change management queue Working ticketing system incident and change management queue as needed Respond to compliance assessments and initiate corrective action when appropriate for audit and compliance remediation Define and evangelize enterprise policies, standards and position statements for new and existing Virtualization and Automation related technologies The candidate must be willing to accommodate weekend, shift or on-call schedules when necessary, and participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support Assist the management team in determining the direction and enhancement of automation processes to meet the needs of the organization Identify and evaluate third party vendors, technology, or processes for integration with GM Financials technology and equipment Assist other engineers with performance analysis, process improvement, task automation, and systems capacity planning Assist with creation and updating of architectural documentation as needed Capacity to work with a high degree of professionalism, communicating effectively and appropriately Participate in company provided training and perform independent training and research as appropriate Understands and promotes the GM Financial policy on Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) to ensure ongoing adherence to all relevant compliance regulations that may govern the GM Financial business and complete all regulatory knowledge training where applicable in a timely fashion Perform other duties as assigned Conform with all company policies and procedures Qualifications Knowledge Detail oriented Local and wide area networking concepts, principles and protocols Advanced knowledge in Infrastructure design and management Working knowledge of management processes such as personnel administration, planning and budgeting Strong working knowledge of Intel platforms, iSeries and pSeries servers Advanced understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices and processes Experience with UML Design Tools Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI model and imp subnetting High level understanding of technology infrastructure, security concepts and platforms Demonstrated success in project management Advanced knowledge of IBM pSeries hardware, operating systems and TSM backup infrastructure Advanced knowledge of the OSI model and security that is associated with each layer Understanding of routing and switching protocols as they relate to load balancing Strong understanding of application layer protocols including HTTP, SSH, SSL, and DNS Knowledge and stay abreast on the latest security and privacy legislation, regulations, advisories, alerts and vulnerabilities Knowledge of IT security processes and controls as well as IT infrastructure and networking technical knowledge Advanced Knowledge of Unix Systems, Virtualization Technologies, Local Area and Wide Area Networking concepts and principles Experience working in 200+ server environment preferred Skills Ability to think strategically and make collaborative decisions Ability to apply structured analysis methods to various types of data to establish trends, determine variability and business impact Communicates quickly, clearly, concisely, appropriately, and intelligently Foster open communication, speaks with impact, listens to others, and writes effectively Experience with alternate management methods using SSH, serial connections, and the command-line interface TMSH Ability to effectively negotiate with vendors on upgrades and acquisitions Effective planning, time management, negotiation, and delegation skills Expert level IT security processes and controls knowledge as well as IT infrastructure and networking technical knowledge Advanced technical writing Experience in documentation tools such as Visio and Microsoft Office products Advanced information security standards/frameworks (ie, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001) skills Advanced experience with Network and VLAN segmentation Strong analytical skills Ability to approach problems with an open-mind, use existing information and resources Creative, Innovative, problem-solving and maximizing your potential to solve problems and improve methods Think positively when faced with obstacles, build on others ideas, think logically and intuitively Education High School Diploma or equivalent required Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work or military experience preferred Experience 7-10 years of experience in Information Technology, Engineering or server platform arena, with an emphasis on server planning analysis, operations and design preferred Working Conditions Normal office environment subject to stressful situations Flexible schedule with possibility of working long hours including At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan.
