Under general supervision, performs a variety of functions relating to day-to-day activities of the golf course operations, including working in the golf shop, cart barn, practice facilities, and inside/outside guest services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Opens and closes the golf shop, cart barn, and practice facilities. Ensures that all day-to-day operations are performed in accordance with daily policy and procedures.
Interacts and provides excellent customer service to guests, answering questions and providing information regarding programs, policies, and course conditions. Assists customers with retail sales.
Uses computerized point-of-sale systems to collect golf, range and retail fees. Ensures all players in each group have paid appropriate fees. Enters data into various databases such as Excel, Golftrac, email, etc.
Determines order of play and calls groups to starting tee in a timely fashion. Communicates with staff on starting groups, turn times, and any other on-course issues.
Answers the phone calls to schedule tee times, provide information, and transfer calls to the appropriate staff member.
Has full knowledge of tournaments and league operations to answer guest inquiries. Assists with tournament operations, GHIN handicapping for events, and outside guest services, including golf cart and practice facility operations.
Assists in merchandising operation by updating displays and rotating merchandise. Has full understanding of merchandise assortment in order to increase golf shop sales. Informs the appropriate personnel when supplies are low and need to be ordered.
Keeps golf shop, eating areas, patio, and restrooms clean and orderly, vacuuming and dusting as needed.
Completes the necessary registration paperwork.
Communicates effectively with all members of the golf course staff.
Drives a golf cart or other utility vehicle when necessary.
May help coordinate and oversee all league play on a daily or weekly basis.
May perform duties related to the maintenance and operations of the golf course and/or driving range.
May be responsible for nightly general ledger/cash turn-ins.
In the absence of golf management, may assume management duties that may arise, making decisions that are in the best interest of the golf course. Keeps management team informed of all such interactions and decisions.
May lead and train less experienced staff members on duties and procedures.
May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays with the possibility of overtime hours.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
One year of previous customer service experience dealing with the public. Some knowledge of golf and golf merchandise is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of Thorncreek Golf Course Rules and Regulations.
Knowledge of the game of golf and golf merchandise.
Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public.
Skill in the safe and lawful operation of a golf cart or other required equipment.
Skill in organizing and managing multiple competing tasks.
Skill in written and oral communication.
Ability to work well and communicate with the public and others.
Ability to provide quality customer service to the public and others.
Ability to tactfully and consistently advise players of rules and regulations, and golf etiquette.
Ability to remain calm during routine and stressful situations.
Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position, including multi-line telephones, PA system, tee scheduling software, cash register, personal computers, facsimile, and photocopiers.
Ability to handle money accurately, conscientiously, and honestly.
Ability to work in a high-usage, fast-paced environment.
Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees and the general public.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. This position is mostly light work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have close visual acuity. The employee is subject to both inside and outside conditions. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions.
