General Summary:
The Government Affairs Associate is responsible for ensuring the Government Affairs Department is successful in its endeavors. As an internal point of contact to the organization, this team member works to support the team engaged at the community, system, state, and federal levels. Further, this team member is responsible for communications, schedule, and timely execution of department responsibilities and is flexible to the needs of the team.
Primary Responsibilities:
Works directly with Department Managers and Directors to support projects and tasks. Work includes: Attending meetings and tracking action items related to meetings. Managing project progress. Document preparation (researching, compiling information, drafting language). Act as support to projects and areas including: Henry Ford Medical Group Political Action Committee International Affairs Economic Development Local, State, and Federal appropriation and policy opportunities Support departments and external consultants on government-sponsored grant opportunities Lead department areas of focus and special projects when assigned.Community Engagement Support:
Support efforts and commitments of the Government Affairs Department with regional and community needs such as: Facility and multiple engagement Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) Future of Health: Destination Grand Scheduling and management of ArtBlock and other community programs Legislative visitsAdministrative Support:
Support Office operations Keep department calendar up to date. Provide administrative updates pertaining to the System (i.e., mandatory trainings, deadlines, etc.) Ensures the office runs efficiently and cohesively. Planning and coordinating various meeting forums with diverse levels of leadership, as well as external stakeholders. Assist in scheduling/confirming meetings and agendas at the start of each week, including booking conference rooms, confirming AV, invites, and locations. Assist in general communication with letter drafting, slides shows, internal website, social media. HFH GA Website: Updating content (position letters, team photos, white papers, GA quarterly newsletters). Meet and greet logistics Work with GA team to ensure handouts, letters, etc. are up to date/ accurate. Plan department and playbook update(s).Qualifications:
Preferred bachelor’s degree in public health, healthcare administration, political science, or related field, or 5 or more years in a local, state, or federal legislative and/or government role. Advanced degree or equivalent work experience preferred. Preferred two years of experience in health administration, advocacy, research, and writing. Understanding of healthcare operations Excellent writing and verbal communications skills to engage both internal and external stakeholders from various economic, ethnic, political, and religious backgrounds. Understanding of Policy, Legislative Process, and Politics. Demonstrated ability to engage multiple partners and manage multiple tasks concurrently. Familiarity with one or more of the following agencies, American Hospital Association (AHA), Michigan Health Association (MHA), Certificate of Need (CON), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
