Monitor, influence, and direct federal legislative initiatives that may impact the company.
Develop and strengthen relationships with elected officials and their staff/committees, regulators, and other third-party allies to effectively channel goals of the bank.
Inform government officials and policy makers about the benefits the bank brings to the marketplace and to their communities.
Monitor the development of business issues that affect the company's reputation; develop strategies for addressing each issue with necessary resources to ensure management of issue.
Supervise execution of advocacy activities by on-staff and retained lobbyists.
Connect bank senior and executive leadership with appropriate officials and influencers.
Provide counsel on appropriate policy positions and strategies concerning regulatory and legislative initiatives.
In collaboration with other bank divisions, help ensure management has a solid understanding of associated risks, opportunities, and potential business issues.
Oversee the M&T Bank Political Action Committee (PAC) to advance M&T’s political strategy.
May exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:Bachelor's degree including a minimum of 9 years' relevant government experience, or, in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 9 years' relevant government experience.
