At the American Red Cross, your uniqueness can shine! **We are currently seeking a professional, innovative and enthusiastic** **Government Relations Representative** **for our** **Northern California Coastal Region.** **_WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:_** The Government Relations Representative will develop and implement government relations and advocacy programs. Collaborate between departments to mobilize staff and volunteers in government relations outreach initiatives. Monitor and track legislative, regulatory, congressional activities, and community affairs activities of interest to the organization. Ensure regular communication with leadership and across departments to identify and articulate the organization’s position. Provide, receive, and analyze information regarding current legislative/regulatory activities, program funding and emerging issues of interest and assist with the strategy development of the organization’s position. Represent the organization’s position with government representatives and/or officials. Typically assigned to a specific function area such as legislative, regulatory, or state relations. May oversee work assignments of staff and volunteers. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers. Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. **_WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD:_** 1.You will represent the organization in building government relations. Develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with elected officials and key internal and external partners and organizations to increase awareness of Red Cross services. Attend hearings and official government functions as needed. 2. Develop relationships across the organization and the nonprofit community to advance legislation. Maintain working relationships with other nonprofits, public policy, and advocacy groups to advance the Red Cross brand. 3. Draft and deliver testimony for legislative hearings. Develop briefing papers and research projects to advance government relations. Create position papers, talking points and other documents to advance key legislative and regulatory positions. 4. Participate in outreach activities to government officials, to include speaking engagements, and serve as spokesperson to strengthen awareness and advance the Red Cross services, programs, and brand. Participate on Government Relationship calls and committees and partner to develop legislative plans. Provide reports and updates to leadership to ensure their engagement and awareness of activities. Assist volunteers to advance advocacy identified priorities. 5. Identify, monitor, understand, and partner across the Red Cross when necessary to ensure compliance with lobbying laws and requirements to include timely completion of lobbying disclosure forms. May participate in lobbying activities and/or arrange communications with government representatives. 6. Monitor and track proposed legislations and regulations for possible impact and effect on the organization. Conduct research to identify anticipated issues impacting the programs and services of the organization. 7. May develop and produce key communication vehicles and materials, including press releases, web strategies, op-eds, and talking points. Handle relationships with local print and broadcast media outlets. Support leadership with planning, messaging, and presenting crisis communications and response. **_Scope:_** Individual contributor that is fully proficient in applying subject matter knowledge. Knowledge based acquired from several years of experience in particular area. Work independently and may instruct, or coach other professionals. **_The salary range for this position is: $99,000.00 - $110,000.00_** _Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have, and comparison to other employees already in this role._ **_WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:_** + Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, or related field required. + Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. + Management Experience: N/A + Skills & Abilities: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to identify, resolve, and escalate issues if necessary. Must display tact, diplomacy, and professionalism in difficult situations and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. Good customer service skills, organizational skills, and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks required. Able to work in fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to establish and build a relationship with a diverse array of professional and community groups and to work effectively as part of a team. Knowledge of office systems including MS-Office and Outlook.
