Whether you are an established professional in the transportation field or just starting your career, INDOT has exciting and challenging opportunities for you.  Role Overview: Position in the Aviation Office will assist all airports in the state of Indiana through various programs conducted by the Aviation Office Additionally, the intern will learn how to conduct airport safety and compliance inspections in accordance with Indiana Administrative Code (IAC) 105-3. These services bolster the aviation system in the State of Indiana and maintain the highest level of safety. Airports are a vital economic engine statewide and also contrubute significantly to the economies of each community they serve. The Aviation intern will also be exposed to other modes of transportation including transit, rail and freight in the multi-modal division. The intern will also assist INDOT with applications of Unmanned Aerials Systems (UAS) on INDOT and other state agency proejcts. Salary Statement: The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those that do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts. Location: This position is located in INDOT’s Central Office, Indianapolis. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: + Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study + Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline + Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations + Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects + Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiative + The Office of Aviation intern would assist in the aircraft certification processes, airport inspections, and system planning efforts. + Assistance (15hrs/wk) with the airport master record program (federal and state inspections) ensures that airport records are updated in the time frame specified by the FAA. + The summer months are also the busiest for inspection activities, state and federal. + System planning efforts vary(7.5hrs/wk) and are continuous.
