The Active Directory (AD) Administrator, under the direction of the Network Manager, is responsible for the design, configuration, monitoring and support of a comprehensive AD implementation for all tribal systems across government, gaming & hospitality, health and enterprises.  Collaborates and coordinates all AD efforts with the assistance of other IT team members to create an efficient, manageable and secure structure and platform for user accounts.  Works closely with the IT Network team to support all other IT and network projects and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

Active Directory (AD) Strategy & Design:

Develop and implement a comprehensive AD strategy for a large multi-site organization with diverse user bases, applications, and servers operating 24/7/365. Collaborate with the Network Manager, network administrators, backup and recovery admins, and network technicians to ensure AD integrates seamlessly with network infrastructure and security protocols. Analyze user access needs and design an AD structure that optimizes security, scalability, and manageability across multiple sites. Define naming conventions, domain structures, and site configurations for efficient AD administration.

AD Configuration & Management:

Configure and manage all aspects of Active Directory, including users, groups, permissions, group policies, and replication between sites. Create, modify, and manage user accounts, groups, and distribution lists based on user roles and access requirements. Implement role-based access control (RBAC) principles to enforce granular permissions on network resources. Configure Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to standardize desktop configurations, software deployments, security settings, and user preferences across the organization.

Group Policy Management & Implementation:

Design and implement Group Policies for user desktops, laptops, and servers to enforce security compliance, manage software deployments, and optimize system performance. Utilize Group Policy Preferences (GPP) for centralized configuration of user settings, printers, and network connections. Monitor Group Policy application and troubleshoot any issues with policy application or enforcement. Regularly review and update Group Policies to ensure they remain aligned with changing user needs and security best practices.

AD Monitoring & Maintenance:

Proactively monitor AD health using performance monitoring tools and identify potential issues like replication errors or authentication failures. Perform regular maintenance activities such as user account cleanup, defragmentation, and Active Directory synchronization across sites. Automate routine AD tasks for efficient administration and minimize manual intervention. Maintain detailed documentation of AD configurations, Group Policies, and user access controls.

Disaster Recovery & Security:

Collaborate with backup and recovery admins and the Security team to ensure AD backups are included in the organization's disaster recovery plan. Implement Active Directory security best practices to prevent unauthorized access and malicious activity. Collaborate with IT Security to regularly review AD security configurations and user permissions to identify and address any vulnerabilities.

Collaboration & Communication:

Collaborate with all IT directors, managers and team members to ensure seamless integration of AD with network infrastructure, user access control, and data protection strategies. Provide clear communication on AD access changes, Group Policy updates, and maintenance procedures to relevant stakeholders. Participate in incident response activities and assist with restoring AD functionality in case of system outages or security breaches.
