Position overview

We are looking for a competent grade setter to coordinate with a crew foreman and establish and monitor grades traditionally (non GPS) on construction sites based on survey provided. A grade setter has a solid background in the field. Your leadership skills and your extensive experience have earned you the ability to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. You must be well-organized and favor safety above everything else.

 

Pay ranges from $22 - $26 an hour, based on experience.

 

Key responsibilities (essential duties and functions) Assist construction site workers in grading and underground operations Interpret survey stakes and plans to provide control ahead of grading and underground operations Inform the foreman of discrepancies between the plans and site conditions Collaborate with foreman to maintain as-built drawings In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, and OSHA guidelines Interact with customers and document any changes to scope of work Good communication skills and ability to work well with a team Strong work ethic

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Five (5) or more years of construction experience encompassing major sitework, utilities and strong grading background.  GPS experience a plus (not required)

 

Work requirements

Must be 18 years in age or older. Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check. Report to work dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook. Willingness to work independently within in a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.

 
knowledge/skill requirements

Knowledge of slopes and lasers. Ability to read stakes.  Ability to think ahead, anticipate potential situations and provide effective solutions to conflicts that arise during the course of business. Familiarity with local site conditions, agency standards. Ability to read and interpret plans and documents.  Ability to observe safety and security procedures. Ability to be self-sufficient and perform tasks and duties without immediate supervision. Demonstrate ability to wear and use proper PPE at all times.

 
Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, reaching and climbing Position will occasionally require climbing of ladders and steps.  The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
