We have an immediate opening for a Grading Foreman who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of a grading crew on the project and be responsible for maintaining owner/contractor relations, crew coordination and equipment, production, safety, and quality.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

A minimum of two years’ experience working in the construction field as a grading foreman and two years’ experience supervising grading crews and maintaining equipment. Heavy Highway and Civil Construction experience preferred. Know and comply with the Company’s safety rules/policies and OSHA regulations. High school Diploma, or GED equivalent. Possess a valid Driver’s License. Strong verbal communication skills, with hand signals. Ability to layout line and grade using surveying equipment (level, laser, GPS, etc.). Utility coordination, logistics and project scheduling. Must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Generalized knowledge of multiple construction trades and equipment. Workload may include travel and may require extended hours, including weekends and/or nights. Ability to work outdoors, in all kinds of weather, on an active highway/heavy construction site. Must be able to hear warning signals and alarms.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Pre-Construction/Construction:

Interpret and explain plans for construction of new projects; read and apply methods and procedures in drawings and layout work. Partner with the Project Manager/Superintendent to coordinate work schedules of all subcontractors on project(s). Set elevations for grading and paving. Attend all project related meetings/events such as safety meetings, supervisory meetings, scheduled training, and seminars. Complete and maintain daily job logs, including subcontractor work on project(s). Confer with project supervisory personnel, representatives from the owner, subcontractors, vendors, and utility companies to coordinate various phases of construction to resolve problems and prevent delays. Maintain and secure company materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.

 Safety: 

Know and apply safety rules and instructions in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment. Know and comply with the Company’s safety rules/policies and OSHA regulations. OSHA “Competent Person” valid First Aid Certification preferred. Model and enforce safe work practices, including articulating safety regulations and wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for the safe performance of work. Attend and/or present weekly safety meetings and turn documentation into the Safety Manager. Immediately Report any safety violations, accidents, injuries, property damage or other claims to Project Manager. Responsible for recognizing and correcting any unsafe conditions that may exist or occur on the job site.  This includes assisting with job site inspections and reporting and following through with directions for abatement of any unsafe condition or hazard. Stay current on the location of overhead and underground utilities.  Maintain Gopher State One Call tickets.

Supervision:

In absence of Field Superintendent, conduct weekly “Tool Box Talks” on assigned subjects. Assist Project Superintendent in determining qualifications of new hires and advise Project Superintendent on additional training needs required for Field crew. Together with Superintendent or Project Manager, review field personnel at the conclusion of each season. Oversee field crew to ensure correct methods of construction are employed and strict adherence to safety rules/regulations is in place.
