The University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies UMIACS is seeking a graduate assistant with journalism experience to join its communications team This individual should have strong reporting skills to interview researchers and write articles about new technologiesThree examples of previous articles with the candidates byline should be included in the application UMIACS pronounced YOU me acks is a multidisciplinary computing research institute that supports more than 80 faculty and 200 PhD students from 15 departments across campusThe institutes primary mission is to use a team based approach supported by powerful computing tools to address grand challenges in science and society The goal of the communications team is to advance the visibility and impact of UMIACS research through online media videos social media and more As part of the UMIACS communications team the graduate assistant will have the opportunity to hone their multimedia skills while building a portfolio of articles on technologies ranging from artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to the microbiome sciences and virtual and augmented reality
