Position Information Position Information Position Availability: Position Title: Graduate Assistant Specialist for the Higher Education Opportunity Program Requisition Number: 0406073483 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: CA/Student Success Responsibilities: The Office of Equity and Belonging at The New School would like to hire a Part-Time, Graduate Student Assistant to manage projects, provide administrative, and operational support for the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). Reporting to the Director of HEOP, the incumbent must be able to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively, use good judgment, possess a strong work ethic, and have excellent communication and organizational skills. This position is required to work year round and is New York State grant funded.
The New School Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program is a New York State Education Department–funded program that offers financial, academic, and socio-emotional support for five years of undergraduate study and related educational activities. It is designed specifically for economically and educationally disadvantaged students who might not meet traditional college admissions criteria but demonstrate promise and potential for academic achievement and success. At The New School, the HEOP office is housed under the Office of Equity and Belonging in which they will coordinate, evaluate, and administer academic, and operational activities of the program to foster student growth and success.

Responsibilities Support the HEOP program with event preparation including but not limited to transporting materials, decorating & arranging spaces, and event breakdown/clean-up Perform administrative duties related to the functional operation of the HEOP Space Assist with stipend and monthly check disbursements for all HEOP students. Communicate important information regularly to first-year HEOP students via email Assist the Director with day to day operations of the HEOP program which include, but not limited to, planning and implementing workshops during the summer program and academic year, supporting with financial and program reporting, supervise HEOP student workers and summer counselors, and assist HEOP students with the development of their study and time management skills. Attend weekly staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with the HEOP Director, participate in other meetings, as necessary
Work ModeOn-Campus Position – Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.
Salary Range$26.00 / hourly
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of social media platforms such as but not limited to IG, Facebook, etc. Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new programs Experience with researching, brainstorming, ideating, and creating programming and marketing materials Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 35lbs Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher Demonstrated ability to engage in active listening, be a team player, reinforce boundaries with students, and exude a great deal of flexibility and adaptability Preferred Qualifications: Job Family: Student Services Department Posting Date: 08/14/2024 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Yes Supplemental Questions
