Graduate Intern - Accounting and Finance Technology

**Some of what you'll be doing:**
This is a full-time summer internship opportunity to support the Port’s digital accounting and finance transformation initiative. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in driving innovation, leveraging technology, and enhancing efficiency within our accounting and finance operations. The intern will work closely with cross-functional teams to research, analyze, and evaluate advanced digital tools and solutions to streamline processes, enhance data insights and improve decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
+ Collect and analyze data related to the Port’s current accounting and finance technologies, processes, systems, and performance metrics.
+ Design and optimize SharePoint sites for the accounting department, inventory and update department forms, and identify opportunities for automation and workflow enhancements.
+ Assist in the development of a data dictionary centered around accounting operations, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data governance and consistency.
+ Assist in the documentation and development of business use cases for data analytics, gathering and translating business requirements into data solutions, and facilitating communication between technical and non-technical teams.
+ Analyze industry reports, use cases, and other resources to identify opportunities for technology innovation and process improvement.
+ Assist in the evaluation, planning and potential execution of pilot projects aimed at testing new technologies and financial process improvements.
+ Support communication efforts to raise awareness, address concerns, and engage stakeholders regarding digital transformation efforts.
+ Assist in developing and implementing change management strategies to facilitate the adoption of new technologies and processes.
+ Prepare reports and presentations summarizing project progress, findings, and recommendations for key stakeholders.
+ Other projects as assigned.
**Who you are:**
+ **A student** – You must be currently enrolled in a Master’s program or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degree program such as business analytics, data science, statistics, information management, business administration or a related discipline.

Prior experience or coursework related to finance, technology, or digital transformation is a plus.
**What else you need to know:**
+ **Work Schedule** – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
+ **Work Environment** – This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
+ **Limited Duration –** This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than five months. At the conclusion of the internship, the department will evaluate the ongoing scope opportunities and business needs to assess whether there is an opportunity for the selected candidate to continue supporting this work.
+ **Washington State Residency Requirement** – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
