Mayo Clinic seeks applicants for a one- or two-year post-baccalaureate research experience in empirical bioethics research, as part of the Graduate Research Employment Program (GREP).

The Graduate Research Employment Program (GREP) is a post-baccalaureate program for participants with an interest in biomedical research. The primary purpose of GREP is to provide a post-baccalaureate research experience that applies skills in science, technology, engineering or math to biomedical research including basic science or translational research. GREP participants gain research experience that may help them to decide on a career path related to biomedical research. In addition, the experience can increase the participants’ competitiveness and preparation for the next step in their career. These goals are achieved by providing:

A mentored research experience in a world-class biomedical research Opportunities to participate in selected graduate classes and seminarsCareer development, mentoring and networking opportunitiesPresentation opportunities

Participants are also responsible for completing all GREP-related assignments and ensuring active engagement in both research and career advancement activities. The program is structured to help participants refine their career goals and increase their competitiveness for future academic or professional steps.

Applications deadline is 11:59pm CST February 17, 2025, and must include the following items:

A cover letter describing your career goals and how biomedical ethics research relates to those goals;A resume/CV that includes your major and relevant courses, honors, and experiences;A 5-10-page writing sample (such as a course paper), preferably on a topic related to biomedical ethics;A current, unofficial college transcript;Two letters of recommendation from a professor or research mentor. Address letters to Dr. Richard Sharp, Program Director. Letters should be emailed directly by the professor/mentor to bioethics@mayo.edu

Top applicants will be invited to participate in a brief phone interview to discuss specific skills and areas of interest. Final decisions will be made in part based on applicants' interests and availability of appropriate mentors.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the post-baccalaureate research assistantship, students must have completed a bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA before the position start date and must plan to pursue medical, law or graduate school admission. Students must have authorization to work and remain in the United States without Mayo Clinic visa sponsorship. All students must pass a background check and a post-offer placement assessment prior to their start date.

Students that do not meet these criteria do not qualify.

Applicants who are currently in Graduate or Medical School are not eligible.
