Graduate Water and Flooding Engineer - 2025 Graduate Programme

The Opportunity

Our water team in Arup works on a wide range of projects in Ireland and internationally.  Projects include flood relief schemes, network and treatment plant design and sustainable drainage design for a wide range of projects to support Arup in the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  We have a wide breadth of skills and qualifications in our team and would be interested in hearing from candidates with a background in civil, structural, chemical or environmental engineering or those with environmental or science qualifications. A number of specialities and project types exist within the water and flooding team.

As a Graduate Water Engineer at Arup, you will:

The duties may change depending on the specific projects but may include: 

Prepare technical designs, drawings, reports, correspondence, and other outputs in accordance with approved design standards and procedures in line with the delivery programme.  Ensure that relevant legislation, regulations, policies, strategies and technical guidance is interpreted, followed and communicated across the team with guidance from senior members of staff.  Communicate effectively and in a team environment with a broad cross-section of individuals. This would typically include, but is not limited to; team colleagues and project managers, other internal design disciplines, clients and contractors. 

Does this role inspire you?

We're looking for graduates who are currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in a civil, structural, chemical or environmental engineering discipline or those with environmental or science qualifications (equivalent to Level 8 in the Irish NFQ) . We also value: 

A Master’s degree within these fields would be beneficial but not essential.   A proven ability to work within a team environment, both internally among the greater Water team and externally within project teams and with stakeholders  Sound understanding of design principles for elements that may include SUDS, flood risk assessments, water quality assessments, water / wastewater treatment etc  Knowledge of hydrological principles  Strong relevant digital skills including ArcGIS  Ability to meet strict deadlines and strong analytical skills
