PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT

Responsible for directing merchandising and marketing, implementing the policies and programs, and ensuring the growth and profitability of the Grain Department. 

 

SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP

Supervises, leads, and develops the employees of the Grain Department at the Main Office. Oversees Grain Locations’ origination, marketing and administrative efforts.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Directs the development and implementation of the marketing programs, communications, and budgets of the Grain Department

Purchases grain through all elevators and origination personnel, and sells grain into all markets for elevator and direct purchases

Develops and implements grain merchandising programs including sales and hedging contracts, margins, & bids, and executes a risk management program through the use of exchange traded futures and options

Determines daily bids, selects best bids and monitors competitive bids

Maintains consolidated daily position and other grain related records

Works with location and operations personnel to ensure the maximum utilization efficiency of storage and grain handling equipment

Communicates and coordinates with elevator managers to ensure adequate quantity and quality of inventories to meet merchandising goals

Negotiates with brokers, millers, truckers, & terminals in order to establish cash grain bids and sales prices

Maintains proper grain dealer, grain warehouse, and regulatory requirements

Merchandises grain within the policy guidelines set by the board of directors

Seeks new business in authorized trade territory

Develops and implements grain strategic plans, operating and fixed budgets

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for building relationships with other grain cooperatives, appropriate end-users, and GROWMARK, Inc personnel 

May be required to oversee the organization, direction, and training of all facility managers, origination specialists, and accounting personnel to maximize company efficiency while maintaining an acceptable level of customer service

Develops relationships with various trade associations

Responsible for interpreting marketing reports, technical information and other market data to effectively disseminate information & recommendations to customers

Communicates professionally and provides optimal customer service

Utilizes technology and Microsoft offices programs and proprietary software to enhance business processes

Performs all other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS

Normally requires a Bachelors degree in Ag Economics, Ag Marketing or Agri-Business or similar field and 6 or more years of experience in marketing and/or commodity trading, or a combination of equivalent education & experience to demonstrate knowledge of marketing leadership

Normally requires a Series III Commodity Brokers License and other appropriate licenses or certifications or the ability to obtain these licenses

Demonstrated core competencies including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record

Must have the ability to travel independently and overnight when necessary

Occasionally exposed to noisy conditions and work at varying heights

Ability to work extended hours and on-call as business conditions warrant

Proven ability to maintain complete confidentiality

Occasionally required to lift 21-50 lbs
