The Grants & Communications Specialist is an integral member of the Advancement team, working to make positive change for people with disabilities and mental health challenges. Grant funding and communications are key drivers of agency growth, program enhancement and operating revenue. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Grants & Communications Specialist is responsible for preparing and producing, in draft and final form, grant proposals and solicitations for funding from private foundations, corporate foundations, and government sources to support agency growth efforts and programs. The Specialist develops solicitations and proposals for programs, general operating needs, and growth opportunities; prepares progress and final reports to donors; and maintains grants files and associated records. The Specialist also works closely with the Manager of Communications and the Advancement team to produce print and digital collateral for the agency's various internal and external communications channels for the department, and agency as needed. This is a hybrid position with a schedule of remote and office-based work. \n

DUTIES:\n\nPrepare grant proposals (at least 22-24\/year) for foundations, corporations, and state and federal agencies that make a compelling case for behavioral health and education services and address identified organizational funding priorities.\nParticipate in grant\/contract group meetings for assigned grants to monitor grant progress, trouble-shoot where needed, and communicate with funders about grant progress and deliverables.\nPrepare and submit timely and accurate required project reports to funding sources in collaboration with grant\/contract workgroup, lead program staff, and other departments.\nMaintain an organization-wide grants calendar, grant files, and associated CRM records.\nPerform prospect research on foundations and government RFPs to evaluate prospects and recommend funding opportunities for proposal development.\nProduce department and agency copy and design to support fundraising efforts and promote agency programs\/mission such as agency collateral and newsletters, social media\/blog posts, and press releases, as needed in collaboration with Manager of Communications and Director of Development.\nCommunicate regularly with Director of Business Development and appropriate teams and departments on the status of pending proposals and projects.\n\n
QUALIFICATIONS:\n
Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of two years grant writing experience and\/or communications and marketing experience, preferably with a nonprofit organization; Master's degree preferred. Previous experience with nonprofit fundraising. Experience writing proposals in response to large state and federal RFPs and institutional donors preferred. Experience with writing for social media platforms, newsletters, blogs, collateral marketing materials. Experience working in deadline-driven environments. Able to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with Spurwink clinical and education teams, finance, CQI and other administrative departments to prepare proposals. Experience writing for a mental health or social service agency preferred. Ability to maintain focus on multiple projects and appropriately prioritize activities to meet contract deliverables. Requires above average competency with Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook, and familiarity with donor databases.\n
