Grants and Contracts Administrator or Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator - School of Data Science

The School of Data Science (SDS) seeks a Grants and Contracts Administrator at the Administrator or Senior level to join the research administration team. The SDS Office of Research Administration provides comprehensive services, including pre-award assistance in coordination with SDS Research Development, post-award administration, and other ancillary non-funded research services. As the newest school at the University of Virginia, SDS is growing rapidly. The open position will support the growing SDS research portfolio, including proposal and budget development, coordination with central and other school sponsored program offices, grant fiscal reconciliations, assistance with progress reporting to sponsors, award closeout, and other needs as identified.

Responsibilities for Grants and Contracts Administrator include:

Manage grant submission processPrepare and revise grant budgetsReview proposals for conformity with University, State, and Sponsor guidelinesPerform fiscal reconciliation of grant accounts with a view towards compliance with sponsor requirements.Monitor grant expenditures for deviations from the budget plan.Manage sub-recipient invoicing on sponsored accounts.Assist faculty with progress reports, change requests requiring sponsor prior approval, No Cost Extension requests, and award closeout.Resolve post-award issues through contact with internal University personnel, external collaborators, and/or sponsor personnel and recommend appropriate changes and/or solutions.Provide compliance, technical and administrative assistance to faculty and other stakeholders regarding sponsor regulations and award terms and conditions.Maintain complete and accurate grant fiscal records.Mentor and provide guidance to new administrators.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

In addition to the above, responsibilities for Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator include:

Manage all aspects of development and implementation of large and complex proposals and awards.Supervise and/or train rising professionals in the grants and contracts area.

Minimum Qualifications for Grants and Contracts Administrator:

Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of related work experience.7 years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Minimum Qualifications for Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator:

Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of related work experience.9 years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Anticipated hiring range for Grants and Contracts Administrator: $60,000-$70,000

Anticipated hiring range for Senior Grants and Contracts Administrator: $75,000-$85,000

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Research Administrator certification.Previous work experience with award sponsors including NSF, NIH, DoD, NASA, industry, foundations and private philanthropy.Financial and/or post award experience with a strong grasp of Cost Accounting Standards as it relates to federal sponsors.

**This position is based in Charlottesville with the expectation that working in the office will be the primary mode of fulfilling job requirements, with telework limited to public health requirements or as worked out with the supervisor.**

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least three years of grant and contract experience. Four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
