Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Grants and Contracts Office of Research ensures completion and performs a variety of functions related to the management and administrative aspects of research administration. May be recognized and serve as back-up signature for the Director. Interprets and ensures compliance with established Hospital and Corporate policies and procedures and those of external funding agencies. Works with a variety of clients across all Brown University Health affiliates.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates functions for Grants and Contracts Office. May be assigned to Pre and/or Post award teams. Identifies investigates and resolves problems escalating to Director as needed. Assess work load of staff and in collaboration with Director distribute workload among all Grants and Contracts staff with regard to applications post award activity and special projects. Coordinate time off with staff including vacation to ensure coverage.
Serves as primary or secondary signature authority on documents necessary to conduct research administration such as letters of collaboration subcontracts contract modifications and submits grant and contract proposals as documented in the most current delegation of signature authority protocol.
Identify and ensure execution of special projects. Coordinate communication with Director for budgetary and staffing implications.
Review current policies assigned to area for relevance and identify need for new policies and procedures; with coordination of other staff members ensure policies are written approved and communicated.
Ensures completion and performs a variety of functions related to the administrative aspects of own portfolio of research grants and contracts.
With guidance from Director conduct audit of staff�s pre and/or post award work � i.e. audit outstanding Time and Effort Reports review of new applications conduct periodic review of financial reports and other documents to assess financial health of an investigator/research group. Review other Federal Uniform Guidance required audit items.
Coordinate training of new Grants and Contracts staff.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
A Baccalaureate Degree in business health science or any other related field.
EXPERIENCE:
At least 4 years of progressively more responsible experience in the field of research administration (grants and contracts regulations requirements) demonstrating knowledge of and ability to interpret related requirements and regulations to work collaboratively with a variety of constituents and to communicate effectively. Must have excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word Excel Access and Power Point. Comfortable in public speaking and training environments.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel to and from various research sites in the Providence area. Walking on the hospital campuses to various locations. Normal office environment. Remote staff are eligible.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs independently within Brown University Health and the department�s policies and procedures consulting directly with the Director Grants and Contracts Office of Research as necessary.
SUPERVISION:
May have direct supervision of staff.
