The School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia seeks candidates to support the operations of Pre Award Research Administration within the Dean's Office as a Grants and Contracts Specialist. This position will work closely with various stakeholders across the University and the School to provide high quality customer service for research faculty and staff.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting proposal development and submission process for Engineering research faculty, staff and student. The ideal candidate will support researchers in:
Prepare and maintain key documents such as Current & Pending files, ensuring accuracy and compliance with sponsor guidelines.Collaborate on the development of proposal budgets and detailed budget justifications, aligning with sponsor and institutional policies.Assist in drafting cover letters and other supporting documents required for proposal submissions.Help prepare Letters of Intent and pre-proposal documentation in coordination with faculty and research teams.Support the preparation and submission of entry-level proposals to federal, non-federal, and other external sponsors using electronic submission systems.Assist in responding to sponsor requests for additional information, including \"Just in Time\" requests and other post-submission inquiries.Participate in process improvement initiatives and contribute to team-based projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Pre-Award team’s objectives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associates degree with at least 2 years of experience related to finance, accounting, and other administrative and data-focus functions.Demonstrating a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills.Qualifications for this position include:
Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher.Quick learner--knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications and the ability to learn how to use UVA's financial, research and/or student systems is required. Preference for those candidates who are currently proficient in using UVA's Workday and Huron systems.The ability to work collaboratively in a team unit as well as work independently with minimal supervision, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, interact professionally with faculty and staff
This is a Hybird role, with an expected salary range of from $50K to $55K per year commensurate with education and experience.

Experience: At least two years of grant and contract experience. Two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
