Specifically, this role will serve as a dedicated Grants Intern focused on pre-and post-award activities, including grant writing and compliance monitoring. This intern will be able to work on real-world projects, learn from experienced professionals, and develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their careers. Essential Functions Program Objectives The objectives of this opportunity include: + Gain exposure to complete lifecycle grants management responsibilities + Coordinate and assist with key projects within the Finance Department’s Grants Management Division + Develop and enhance skills related to effective project management, regulatory compliance, and financial analysis + Help intern determine if a career grants management is right for them Internship Activities Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, such as: + Conduct grant prospect research to identify potential funding opportunities, including reviewing formal Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) + Develop competitive grant proposals, including writing project narratives in partnership with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and preparing detailed project budgets + Learn the essentials of project management + Receive specialized training in Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (2 CFR 200) + Conduct budget to actual financial analysis + Prepare various reports, including performance reports demonstrating compliance with grant terms and conditions as well as impact reports highlighting the benefits of specific grant programs within our community + Support the implementation of a dedicated grants management software system + Build cloud-based Nintex Process Manager process maps + Shadow experienced professionals Requirements To be eligible for the City of Boise’s Summer Internship Program, applicants must be: + Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record or who graduated in the last 12 months from an accredited university + Majoring in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field + Have a strong interest in grant writing and grants management + Be able to work up to 20 hours per week (negotiable) + Be able to commit to the entire internship program from May through August 2025 Working Conditions The physical effort characteristics and working environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 19-Hour Temporary All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits. 4-Month Temporary All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment. 8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage. 9-Month Temporary In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
