SUMMARY:This is a hybrid role, focused on file preparation and graphics project management APC digital print projects. The Graphics Technician – Digital will support all file production, including but not limited; dieline creation, preflight, image conversion, 1-up file preparation, press step and repeat layout, file analysis and final press file management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following, as well as other duties as assigned.
+ Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the SPOT Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation’s efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
Project Management:
+ Responsible for all written communication within the APC graphics order entry system
+ Responsible for gathering graphics information and materials needed to initiate a digital project.
+ Facilitate routing, tracking and execution of digital files needed for APC digital print projects.
+ Coordinate with operations, sales and customer teams to prioritize project timing and the provide the required deliverables for flawless execution.
+ Manage timelines for projects and expected to be the gatekeeper for milestones, receipt, confirmation and approval of digital print projects.
+ Be the voice of the client during preproduction meetings and press approvals.
File and Premedia Services:
+ This is not a Graphic Designer role; this position is focused on technical file prep and prepress deliver.
+ Prepare files/jobs for digital print workflows (file preflight, file modification, image, layout, spot color adaption, etc.)
+ Troubleshoot client files and provide training/advice to clients on best practices for APC digital files.
+ Format files to optimize for premedia process automations.
+ Own confirmation of print feasibility for designs
+ Design all files according to the production requirements defined by the job specifications.
+ Step and repeat one-up files using ESKO/Hybrid automation software ensuring final stepped file matches job parameters.
+ Create master dieline templates for APC production centers from customer inputs
+ Coordinate with APC manufacturing teams to integrate marks and other graphic elements to ensure efficient production of production dieline(s).
+ Provide additional premedia support for all APC production centers
+ Support the QC functions and process for APC premedia services

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
+ Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
+ Assertive, process oriented and proactive problem solving
+ Previous packaging premeida experience preferred
+ Acceptable prior work history
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
+ Highly proficient at operating modern graphics software and technology including but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
+ Adobe Illustrator skills need to be print/premedia focused, design focus is good but not primary function of this role
+ Experience with high end prepress PDF editors (Packz/ArtPro+) and automation software such as ESKO (Switch, Automation Engine), Hybrid Software (Cloudflow)
+ Basic understanding of color science and color management methods and measurement
+ Understanding of ESKO Color Pilot and HP/Indigo color workflows
+ Experience and understanding of packaging press layout requirements is preferred.
+ Basic computer skills and knowledge of Mac OS, Microsoft Office, etc.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work independently with a minimum of direction; plan and schedule individual work assignments; detail oriented; work with highly technical and complex projects within defined deadlines; produce high quality, single multiple-colored and 4-color process material with speed, efficiency and accuracy; set up, adjust, maintain and operate offset printing equipment, bindery and finishing equipment; clean and maintain equipment; learn new procedures and the operation of new equipment quickly; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
