We are seeking qualified candidates for our Grid Software Internship Program in Power Systems beginning in May 2025. This program is based in Minnetonka, MN but may allow remote work in the US.

Internship Description: 12-week full-time summer internship consisting of multiple Power Systems related roles within the Grid Software division. Part-time work during the school year may also be available. Potential intern placements are as follows: Transmission and Distribution Technical Consultant, EV Infrastructure Technical Consultant, Power Systems Software Engineer.Transmission & Distribution Technical Consultant:
In this role you will work on exciting topics, including the application of power systems planning principles, simulation and analysis of power system steady state and dynamic behavior, development of mathematical models for reliability assessment of electrical networks, and delivery of on-site technical consulting/training services for both Transmission and Distribution levels. Furthermore, you will: Apply transmission and/or distribution power system model topology changes. Analyze transmission and/or distribution power systems through steady state, short circuit, or transient stability studies. Conduct research on the processes and guidelines for load and generation interconnections to the power grid & new challenges for the future of the grid. This position allows remote work from within the US. Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Technical Consultant:
In this role you will work on exciting topics, including EV Infrastructure planning, modeling, simulation, and analysis of EV adoption scenarios and impacts by development of statistical/mathematical models for EV adoption scenarios. Furthermore, you will: Conduct research on the processes and guidelines for EV infrastructure planning for the future of the grid. Perform utility capacity analysis and EV charging station analyses: system level and conceptual design. Be mentored by Siemens PTI experts to conduct research and summarize findings on federal, state, and local funding opportunities for building EV infrastructure as well as utilities plans for building EV infrastructure and utility system capacity design. Assist with technical challenges for EV proliferation on the grid. Prepare weekly status reports on all activities, produce draft reports, and prepare presentations for the review of supervisors on researching findings and analyses. This position allows remote work from within the US. Power Systems Software Engineer:
In this role you will work on exciting topics you will work on developing software applications for the power utility industry. Furthermore, you will: Learn with mentor and as a member of a Software Development Team. Work with Power Systems Software Applications, Transmission Network Applications, Automatic Generation Control, Operator Training Simulator, and more. Support the data modeling of customer Network Model. Perform the tuning and testing of software applications from analyzing feature requirements and bug reports to troubleshooting and debugging software solutions on customer systems. Design and implement software solutions and perform software validation, including executing and implementing automated tests. This position can be fully remote or hybrid work schedule with access to our Minnetonka, MN office. You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications Current junior or senior undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or graduate student with at least one year remaining in their program. Candidates must not be graduating prior to September 2025. Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field. Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Familiar with C/C++, Java, Python or SQL programming languages Familiarity with Distribution Power System Simulation Software and Transmission Power System Simulation Software. Working knowledge of applications of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace. Experience using collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Slack, or Discord. Ability to work effectively with multinational and diverse groups and demonstrate leadership skills. Self-starter with good time management skills and the capacity to effectively prioritize a variety of concurrent activities. The pay rate for this position is $31 per hour for undergraduate candidates and $31-$35 per hour for graduate candidates.
