Job Summary:
To assist in the maintenance and appearance of all Messiah Lifeways grounds. To provide an attractive, comfortable, and safe environment for all Messiah Lifeways residents and staff. The Grounds Assistant will be completing daily tasks and seasonal projects as assigned by the Grounds Coordinator/Grounds Manager. Safety and productivity will be implemented at all times.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Carries out all requests assigned by the Manager. These requests may include, but are not limited to, any of the following:
lawn mowing
weed whacking/string trimming
snow/ice removal
mulching
tree and shrubbery trimming/pruning
weeding
trash/recycling collection
room set ups involving setting tables, chairs, etc., for special functions
routine maintenance duties as requested by residents or departments
On-Call: Is responsible to help with on-call coverage of all weather related emergencies 24/7
Must be willing to alter work schedules to accommodate special needs such as snow plowing/removal and preventive maintenance projects. Around December 1 thru March 1 each year, you will be expected to go inside cottages and buildings to help with preventive maintenance and anything Campus Services may need help with. However, if during this time period grounds need assistance with snow removal, you will be pulled out of Campus Services and go back to working with the grounds crew
Follow emergency procedures and respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies ensuring the safety of the residents and staff
Follow proper procedures and promote safe work practices in order to maintain a safe working environment
Work cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, and other employees
Confidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways
It is the responsibility of all Messiah Lifeways employees to be mindful of safety when performing duties. This is to include performing tasks in a safe manner, as well as being mindful of potential safety issues when traveling throughout the campus. If any unsafe conditions are discovered, this shall be reported to the Office of Safety and Security immediately, and actions shall be taken to reduce the possibility of injury until a permanent solution can be applied
All Grounds Assistants shall be responsible, as assigned, to ensure that building entrances remain aesthetically pleasing and functional including the daily maintenance of said areas. This maintenance to include, but not limited to, debris clean-up, seasonal decorating, weather related emergencies, etc
