The John Stewart Company, serving as the Presidio Residences, is the residential property manager for the Presidio Trust (“Trust”), a wholly-owned government corporation responsible for preserving and enhancing the Presidio of San Francisco. The Presidio, an army base for over two hundred years, is required to be financially self-sufficient, with revenue to cover its activities coming primarily through the leasing of its real estate, including 1,174 housing units. The residential portfolio offers a variety of dwellings ranging from modest single-room occupancy apartments to premier former officers’ homes.

 

We are seeking Grounds personnel who can perform a wide variety of janitorial duties including general tasks related to the upkeep of the grounds and common areas at Baker and South Baker Beach Apartments etc.  Together, the two neighborhoods are comprised of 457 housing units.  Nature of work requires emphasis on safe work practices, sustained physical effort, problem solving, attention to detail, customer service, and time management.

Responsibilities Keep all common areas clean of debris/garbage, including the removal of trash, litter, and animal waste; raking leaves, and removing trash or litter from shrubbery and hedges according to daily scheduleSweep exterior of buildings and carports, remove cobwebs from carports, stairwells, and entrywaysUse a leaf/backpack blower in a safe, effective mannerKeep refuse dumpsters (garbage, recycling, and compost) areas clean and free of debrisUse water, hose, and scrub brushes to clean stairwells, carports, and other common areas as neededUse power washer to effectively and safely clean common areas as neededRemove and/or report graffiti to appropriate peopleMaintain inventory of necessary suppliesMaintain neat, clean, and organized maintenance and storage areasReport necessary work orders to appropriate staffAdvise supervisor of equipment and supplies neededAct as “eyes and ears” and report lease violations, safety hazards, etc. to the Property ManagerWater specified areas of open space, as requested by Presidio TrustWork with the Presidio Trust on periodic planting projectsProvide customer service to residents and park visitorsUnderstand and implement appropriate safety practicesWork within John Stewart Company safety guidelinesAbide by the Inclement Weather PolicyOther duties, as requestedCleans common area floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuumingSteam-cleans or shampoos carpetsCleans and polishes furniture and fixturesCleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrorsDusts furniture, walls, machines, and equipmentServices, cleans, and supplies common area restroomsUses and stores cleaning products in accordance with manufacturer’s instructionsUses non-toxic cleaning products whenever possible Qualifications

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ REQUIREMENTS:The location of this position may change and can vary in terms of neighborhood location and from being indoors to outdoors; however, extreme environmental conditions do not exist  Requires physical exertion over long periods of time such as frequent bending, twisting, stretching, stooping, reaching overhead, walking on uneven ground, standingMay be exposed to loud noises during emergencies; blood borne pathogens or other bodily fluids/excretions; and hazardous materials such as paints, cleaners, or other janitorial/maintenance materialsMay be exposed to conditions and chemicals which require the use of personal protective equipmentUtilizes a wide range of powered and non-powered hand tools such as mops, brooms, buffers, vacuums, shampooersMust be able to lift 50 pounds and walk for long periods of time, push items of 20-40 pounds, climb ladders, sit, stand, kneel, twist, or grasp/pull/carry/push equipment such as mowers, weed whackers, janitorial carts, vacuums, brooms, or mops and walk on uneven ground Must be able to quickly move your hands and grasp, manipulate, or assemble objectsMust be able to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath

Pay Range: $21.00/Hr. - $22.00/Hr.
