Job Overview

The grounds maintenance supervisors ensure that lawns, gardens, parks and plant displays are attractive and healthy. Is responsible to lead, assign tasks, and supervise maintenance, and landscape crews who mow lawns, irrigate planting beds, trim shrubs and perform other outdoor maintenance tasks such snow removal, and parking space maintenance. Provides safety instruction and monitoring of crew activities.  Performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures as directed on grounds, turf grass, pavements, walkways, amphitheater, ponds, swimming pools and fountains. This is a Foreman level position.

Duties And Responsibilities

Perform routine tasks in maintaining lawns and grounds, including seeding, fertilizing, mowing and watering, and some tasks may be performed regardless of weather conditions Respond to emergency situations during and after his/her assigned work hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. Assist in preventing accidents resulting from snow or ice covered walkways by removing mowing decks and installing snow removal equipment on riding mowers and tractors; installing snow removal equipment on trucks; operating snow blowers, tractors or mowers with blades and using shovels to remove snow and spread sand, salt and other substances on snow- or ice-covered surfaces. Install, plant, spray and maintain flowerbeds. Plant, fertilize, spray and prune shrubs and trees. Maintain and repair sidewalks, roads and parking lots. Maintain and repair water and sanitary lines, storm sewers, drainage structures and manholes and drain lines. Perform tasks in snow removal, leaf raking, tree cutting and stump removal. Operate job related power equipment such as end loader, snow blower, air compressor and air hammer, mowers, painter, chain saw, and other power equipment. Job duties may be performed in hot, dusty, dirty environments. Employees may be exposed to fumes, smoke or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, noise and outside weather conditions Work is characterized by the necessity for considerable physical exertion, by close daily contact with unpleasant materials Work involves heavy lifting and exposure to fumes, chemicals and other noxious odors, machinery with moving parts and noise. Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance. Working Foreman: both performs, and supervises performance of, physical tasks required to clean and maintain the facility and grounds including pools, buildings, outside structures and parking areas Supervises, coordinates, monitors and assigns work to full-time and part-time staff Requests grounds maintenance supplies, janitorial supplies and parts or services from qualified vendors in compliance with purchasing guidelines Performs safety inspections on equipment and facilities under the employee’s supervision Assists in the development of the assigned facilities’ maintenance budget and evaluates needs for new equipment Accurately maintains records including assignments, time sheets, accident reports and maintenance records of the assigned facility Other duties and responsibilities as assignedParticipate in snow removal operations by operating a variety of general purpose, specialized, and heavy-duty vehicles such as pick-ups, stake beds, dump trucks, backhoes, loaders.When weather or other conditions prohibit performance of the above duties: Replace and dispose of light bulbs in interior building settings using ladders, lifts, or other tools. Performs painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment. Performs custodial services following established procedures and guidelines in buildings, offices, lavatories, restrooms, etc. including their furnishings, using manual tools and powered machines. Perform minor maintenance work using hand and power tools by making carpentry repairs such as nailing down loose boards, or replacing worn or rotten floor boards, performing minor plumbing repairs, and replacing defective electrical switches, light bulbs, fuses, and fluorescent ballasts.

Job Requirements (Please Ensure You Meet The Listed Requirements Prior To Applying)

High School diploma or GED required or currently enrolled and successfully complete a GED program within 6 months from start date as a condition of continued employment Associate’s Degree in Related field– required OR Two (2) years’ Supervisory experience– required OSHA 30 certification. required OR One (1) year experience as a Dual-Rate Supervisor in a PCI Gaming Department– required OR Two (2) years’ experience in the hiring position’s Department– required Employee must hold one of the following credentials granted by the State of Illinois – required Possession of Illinois State Public Applicator or Operator License and Ornamental and Turf pest control is preferred. OR other state’s certification of equivalence to Illinois’.  Candidate will be required to obtain Illinois certification within six (6) months of hire date Two (2) years of Commercial or Municipal grounds maintenance and/or landscaping grounds-keeping/nursery experience- required Must have a valid and current State Driver’s License and an insurable driving record for purposes of driving company vehicles as required Must have good hearing and eyesight Must have ability to read, write and understand English Willing to work odd and irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays Willing to travel and participate in training as recommended or required Must have an Occupational License (or the ability to obtain and maintain a license) pursuant to the Illinois Gaming Act and remain in good standing with the Illinois Gaming Board as a requirement for this position Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the Casino customers and vendors at large
