Grounds Technician

Job Description:

The Grounds Technician will be under the general direction of the Facilities Director and will plan, coordinate, and supervise the overall operations of the TTI grounds at various locations.

Assists with the planning, direction, management, and the overall operation of the grounds department to maintain a safe and attractive landscape, including assigning, training, and evaluating work for grounds areas owned or leased by TTI. Assures compliance with applicable health and safety standardsAssesses, develops, implements, and evaluates necessary cultural practices for turf management, tree care, shrub/bush/plant care, irrigation systems, storm water pond vegetation management and exterior pest control managementGives input to the Grounds Manager/Lead for budget preparation and management; implements a rigorous maintenance schedule and oversees the completion Research and test new company products, materials, and equipment, providing feedback to engineers on performanceEnsures data entry and tracking related to computerized maintenance management systems, chemical applications, landscape and irrigation documentation, and related grounds activitiesReviews grounds maintenance schedules of various sites to ensure top quality appearance is always maintainedCommunicates with contractors on grounds work that will be outsourced, such as bush hogging of undeveloped flat land and slopesCommunicates with all groundskeepers and acts on improvement as appropriateExecute a comprehensive grounds maintenance programMaintain accurate and detailed records of work and project performedEstablish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals, whether members of the public or coworkers, from diverse groups and backgroundsOperate vehicles including tractors, forklift, mowers, and other landscape equipment; towing trailers, and the safe loading of trailers; and snow removal equipment including snowplows.  Operates the use of pressure washers to maintain sidewalks and parking areasMust be detail oriented in both documentation and grounds maintenance. Reporting of product data may/will be relayed to other departments for consumer benefit.  Performs other related duties as assignedAbility to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; ability to supervise effectively; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.Disagreeable conditions with frequent physical effort; the work environment and exposures are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job because of exterior duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or GEDEducation and/or Experience may substitute year-for-year for specific degree requirementsOne year operating on a crew of groundskeepers, landscape technicians, or equivalent is also necessary to meet minimum requirementsUsing reasoning to identify alternative solutions and approaches to problemsCommunicating with others orally and in writing to convey information effectivelyThe use of tools and motorized equipment commonly used in this vocationThe use of tractors and pickup trucks and a variety of common grounds maintenance equipmentUtilizing computersMust have a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in the state of South Carolina and possess an acceptable driving record.Must be able to obtain certificates for first aid/CPR within six months of employment. Must be able to use a respirator when requiredPrinciples, materials and methods of grounds maintenance and repairMethods and techniques of grounds maintenance Modern office procedures, methods, and communication equipmentPrinciples of supervision, training, and performance evaluationSafety and accident prevention practicesHorticulture and landscape maintenanceInventory records and systemsApplied working knowledge of Storm Water Runoff ManagementSkill in operation of listed tools and equipment; Saws, pumps, common hand, and corded and battery  tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone, landscaping tools, crowbar, forks, shovel, spade, brooms, mowing tractors, small tractors, paintbrush, bush ax, chainsaw.
