The Department of Public Health’s Tewksbury Hospital is looking for an outgoing and reliable individual to fill aGroundskeeper IIposition.
Tewksbury Hospital serves approximately 360 inpatients whose care is under the auspices of both the Department of Public Health and the Department of Mental Health. Tewksbury Hospital is a Joint Commission accredited long term and acute care hospital that provides comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with medical and/or mental illnesses. A full range of services are provided including 24/7 nursing, nurse practitioners, medicine, as well as psychiatric and psychological services, a six bed inpatient dialysis unit, clinical laboratory, radiology, respiratory care, nutrition, speech/language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation, and pharmacy. This clinical environment is strictly governed by regulatory standards that mandate day to day interventions and services.
In addition to the main hospital site, the hospital campus is home to multiple residential 24/7 programs including programs for adults in recovery and two (2) locked young adolescent programs. These programs serve approximately 300 clients daily.
PRIVATE Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities
1. Comply with all applicable state and federal laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations, which govern the privacy of patients and the confidential nature of their care.
2. Trim, prune, cut and/or plant flowers, bushes etc. as part of groundskeeping activities.
3. Seed, water, weed and/or fertilize lawns, flowerbeds, shrubs etc.
4. Spray lawns, flower beds, shrubs etc. with fertilizers or pesticides.
5. Assist in the design of floral beds, landscape plans etc. for grounds beautification.
6. Cut lawns using hand or power movers.
7. Makes minor repairs of sidewalks, roadways and parking lots and clears them of snow.
8. Perform related duties such as emptying rubbish barrels; picking up trash; cleaning ditches; drains and catch basins on grounds or roadways; shoveling snow and raking leaves.
9. Prune, cut and remove tree limbs and branches.
10. Excavate grounds using backhoe and front and back loaders.
11. Monitor the activities of employees involved in groundskeeping work to ensure compliance with established standards.
12. Provide on-the-job training to assigned workers.
Perform related duties such as maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment; and preparing written reports as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experienced in usage of landscape equipment.Understanding of motors and tools used in landscaping.Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in landscaping and repair work.Ability to communicate effectively.About Tewksbury Hospital:

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, park maintenance or tree maintenance work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
